somebody | Why are my section 8 neighbors buying cable? |
They just moved in and are renters. Our previous neighbors were also section 8 renters. And wow, they were they worst neighbors ever. They had a billion kids and trashed the place. Why are these people buying cable if they can't even afford to the rent the house? I don't have cable and I own my house. It seems that maybe people need to reorganize their priorities. Whats your thoughts on this? Additional Details CHEAP???? It's verizon FiOS. Thats 47.99. That is not cheap. Cheap would be how cable prices were before- around 10-20 dollars. |

They are not paying the rent. YOU are. Their rent comes from your hard earned tax dollars.
Because you and I are paying their rent they have extra money to blow on worthless things.
It is going to get worse too, the bleeding hearts will be in charge for awhile. |

you are correct but leopards do not change their spots now do they. They are happy being section 8 and always will be.
I f they won the lotto in a year or two they would be section 8 again |

First of all: IT IS NONE OF YOUR STINKING BUSINESS!!!!!
Section 8 usually pays enough of their rent so that they have enough money to pay all the rest of their utilities, and still live comfortably. There is no law against them getting cable. They are not required to look dirt poor just because it would make you feel better. They are still working and making some money.
Mind your own freaking business and worry about your own bills.
EDIT: I am so sick and tired of every one here passing judgment on Section 8 people and areas that accept it. Someone on Section 8 is NOT automatically a bad person and a rental that accepts it is NOT automatically in a bad neighborhood!!! Section 8 just means that they need help paying the rent. Some of my best tenants are on section 8. Granted some of them trash places and cause a problem, but just as you cannot say all blacks are bad because one did something wrong- the same goes for the under privileged!
You all need to get off your high horse and pull your head out of your as$! |

As I don't know their full situation I will say that cable is fairly cheap entertainment and they do need some kind of entertainment. Many people that do work qualify for section 8 and it may be that they really need the help. They could spend money on worse things like drugs and alcohol. |

In my personal opinion, it is better to control your spending in this environment, even if it means cutting back on some luxuries. |

They don't pay rent, all the US tax payers do.
They are buying cable so the herd of kids have something to do.
There is a reason they are on Section 8, they have a "disability" or some other reason they cannot work and we have to subsidize their existance. Of course they need to reorganize their priorities, but for some people, they are perfectly content to leech off of everyone else.
I always thought it was ironic that there wasn't some sort of accountability for this. 3 dirty urine screens or convictions should boot these people off government assistance. It shouldn't be a non-stop gravy train. |

I am a former realtor and I have a mortgage business. I also have owned section 8 properties. As a result, I am qualified to give you this piece of advice. MOVE ! The fact that you have section 8 living next to you tells me that you are not living in the best neighborhood in the first place. My suggestion to you is keep your current residence and rent it out. Rent it to section 8 tenants. There are strict guidelines and inspections but the government pays on time. Buy another home in a nicer neighborhood to live in.
