Fatty | Why bail out those in foreclosure? |
Congress is trying to pass a bill that would essentially bail out a great deal of people... but is it fair to all those people who did manage to make their payments and struggle through it? Why should all of us who worked our butts of to provide a roof over our own head have our taxes help those who didnt? Believe me, I work in mortgage and can tell you that the bulk of these foreclosures are people who KNOWINGLY got in over their head. For every sad story about someone that got duped, there are 100's of people who knowingly put themselves in this postion... thoughts? comments? Additional Details Michelle, believe me, I know what Im talking about. I dont slam people into loans they shouldnt be in, thats why I live on a constant stream of referrals... its what happens when you do right by your customers. I assure you that if you saw it from my end, you would see the world in a new light. Most of these people had no business buying the houses they did. Ignorance makes me sick. There are about 80 pages of disclosures in a loan documents that line out in plain english EXACTLY what kind of loan you are getting... are you saying Americans can't read? I dont know about you... but I dont sign on the dotted line without reading the fine print... ever. |

The government should absolutely NOT bail anyone out. Lender or borrower. Why? Because that means I, and all the other tax payers, will have to pay.
For the people who knowingly went into these loans, THEY need to feel the pain.
For the people who knowingly lied about their income and those who actually believed them (No Doc loans), THEY need to feel the pain.
For the lenders who knowingly swindled people into these loans, THEY need to feel the pain by clearing these people's credit or get sued by these people.
I'm tired of people calling for help when they probably caused the problem. I never received help for my mistakes nor would I ever want any. These days too many people are looking for a free ride. And it all starts in the schools...
OK I'm stopping now before I get into a rant. |

No, but Congress doesn't care about 'fair'.
Its actually a slap in the face to everyone that made their mortgage payments.
Another case of Congress making a grain of sand into a mountain so they can appear to be doing something as a hero.
You're correct, most people knew the ARM was going to change but bought too much house anyway - now they all cry about their poor judgement and want tax dollars to correct their poor decisions. |

i agree with you in fact I tell people to buy less house than they can budget so they won't be married to the mortgage. I have never done an IO loan and few arms |

I don't think it should be up to the taxpayers to bail these people out.
Those interest only loans are just now starting to include the principal amounts. People knew that when the principal would start to be included in their payments they would not be able to afford such a payment.
Five years ago, my husband and I looked into this type of loan. When we saw how much the payment went up in 5 years, we knew there would be no way we could afford it. So we opted not to purchase. Smart decision on our part.
The people who pay their bills should not be penalized by paying for other people's bills. |

Don't mean to sound heartless but if your house is in foreclosure because of YOUR bad judgement and lack of business sense, it's not up to everyone else to bail you out. Not everyone can afford a house. Deal with it. |

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you - this is EXACTLY what my husband and I have been saying for about the last yr. Besides all your very valid points, I just have to add that I can't imagine someone screwing up that bad. . .I mean come on, it's your house for crying out loud! If nothing else, you're gonna pay the mortgage, right?!? I know unexpected poo-poo happens that makes it impossible to keep current (like medical problems, loss of a job, etc.), but just how often and to how many people does that happen? Certainly not the MAJORITY of the people who are in foreclosure. Meanwhile, my husband and I bust our butts to pay OUR debt(s). We don't go looking for a hand out from the gov't. or anyone else. But then again, we bought a house we could AFFORD!! Not our "dream" house with all the bells and whistles!! |

I think its great for the people who have legitimate issues, not for those who just took to much of a risk. There are alot of people in my area who could really benefit from some assistance.
For instance say you purchased your home 5 years ago for 220,000 which at the time was what that home was worth. Now because of the drastic decline in the housing market that home is only valued at 175,000. What should have been a solid financial investment that would have built wealth for an individual over time is now a sinking ship that they can not escape from.
Those are the people who deserve all the help they can get. No one could have predicted the market would crash and burn as hard as it did in the hardest hit areas. |

Well we can't place blame to those who knowingly got in over their head...some of them were probably very honest hard workers who got laid off. There are still SOME guilty mortgage banks and realtors who like to make a penny anyway they can. |

You have no idea what you are talking about. There are circumstances other than people getting in over their heads that cause foreclosures. Death, divorce, lose of job in these hard times. There are families living n the streets who have no where else to go.They have small children who do not deserve to go through such a thing. You have seriously sickened me. You ignorance and one track mind is why America is the way they are. Don't sit there and pretend that you never forced a mortgage on someone you KNEW could not afford it just to make your commission. You tell people that you would not give them the loan if you knew they could not afford it. BULL SH&*!! Some people still believe in the American dream and these mortgage brokers feed on the weak and uneducated. Don't sit there and act like a saint because you have been able to "do it" There are people out there who are debating between eating and paying their mortgage. Or heating their home.AGH!!! You piss me off |
