Why cant i find any houses to let that the landlords accept dss?
I have been looking for a poperty now for about 3 weeks now and not one landlord accepts dss, this is not fair and i do not agree that we should all be tarnished with the same brush.
If anyone out there knows of any landlords that accept dss in the birmingham area i will be forever in your debt. Thanks.

The replies you have had, are not very sympathetic. Firstly, I would apply to the council for housing. Get a form, fill it in and get on the list ticking the box that says you will accept housing association properties.
Spend a couple of hours in the local library looking up housing associations in Birmingham and get them to send you an application form.
To get a roof over your head, don't be too fussy. Accept any offer, better than being on the streets and after a year when you have proved yourself as a decent tenant, apply for a transfer to the area you want.
Most councils will have a list of landlords that will accept HB, get it and ring them.
I assume you have a mobile phone, good, then put an advert in the local paper under property wanted. Describe yourself, how hardworking/need a break/won't p!ss on the carpets/can provide reference etc. You may be surprised. I was, and got a nice 2 bed flat above a greengrocers. Great landlord.
And keep pestering the housing department every week.

Auntie Cabbage
Try asking the council if they have a list of local private landlords that accept dss.
I know most councils hold them,
Good Luck

The reason is income tax, if the council pay the rent landlords are forced to declare the income. Many do not declare this income.
Its not you its them.
What you can do is tell them you are working sign the tenancy agreement then tell them you have lost your job they can do nothing about that.
But I never told you ok!

Something you could try is looking at local newsagents and seeing if any rooms to let or rent house as most people dont want to pay letting agencies fees, good luck.

Aye. Right!
I know from friends who let properties that they don't have ANYTHING against people on DSS, in general, at least, BUT, they have had soooo many problems with not being paid on time, and silly amounts of paperwork, and general hassle, from the DSS/social that they just wont put up with it anymore. But renters seem to think that they say 'No DSS' to get at them, and that is honestly, often not the case. It is the headache created by the 'powers' that are MEANT to pay their rent.
Good luck finding somewhere.

because they don't want the paperwork or the government sniffing round, most landlords are on the fiddle tax wise.

Sorry that it is difficult to find a place but as far as being tarred from the same brush not being fair actually it is kind of fair . Follow my logic, if you please...Who is the landlord going to sue, if you damage the property? Not you!, You Gots No Money! A bad tenant can can cause more damage in a week than a year's rent will pay for. We are a business that provides a product for a profit. There is government provided housing in both the UK and the US you might want to look into that. If you want to live in a world where all of the housing is provided by the government try the USSR!, Oops! Sorry! Doesn't exist anymore! Guess you're stuck with us!
I don't mean to be glib, its just that folks have got to learn to look at an issue from both sides. Both McDonald's and the Ritz sell food which you choose to patronize is based upon your circumstances, it would be nice if everything would be provided to everyone who needs it, but its been tried and it doesn't work.

It's because not every landlord can afford to foot the bill for the mortgage until the DSS decide to get their act together and organise the paperwork and payments. It does happen eventually, but often there may be 3 months back rent or so due. If you cant afford to keep the rent up to date until the DSS sort this problem out, how do you expect the landlord to find the dosh to pay the mortgage? It's swings and roundabouts here - get saving some money and offer to pay rent up front. You'll be in with a chance then.
