Why do helicopters fly low in circles at 2 am over my neighborhood?
This happens 2-3 times a month, never in the day, usually at 2, 3 sometimes 5 am. In strange flight patterns, starts to the east, ends in the south and they mix it up real quick. They dont have loudspeakers which say "this is the police" which i think is a good sign.

My hood is borderline ghetto do I just need to move?

paul
you live near a hospital?
i do, and have similar flight patterns at similar times
i've heard its when they fly to a nearby hospital for routine checks and airlifts of patients who couldn't be moved by ambulance
but it could also be escaped rapists they're looking for
who knows

Well I was going to say are you living in south central LA but you basically clarified it to be similar.

If it's a high crime area you may have to. It sounds like their looking for something. Or doing tours, but borderline ghetto is probably the "looking for something" option.

Our house backs onto a large reserve, and often have the helos hovering over us...apparently it's because of escaped prisoners and stuff. It's been happening for about 7 years, and we've never been bothered by any 'unsavory characters'...If you love your house, don't leave it! :)

Reason #1: Law enforcement feels your neighborhood is worth the extra money to bring in air support.

(Might be time to move.)

Reason #2: Local hospitals are medivacing away people in your neighborhood at an unusually high rate, possibly due to the high crime rate implied above.

(Might be time to move.)

Reason #3: Local news is sending their "eye-in-the-sky" to get the latest on the police and medivac actions in your neighborhood.

(You can either smile for the camera or consider moving.)

Reason #4: There are a lot of war veterans in your neighborhood who really, really love watching war movies late at night.

(Put an American flag outside your door and thank God and your neighbors that they were there for you when it counted. Then buy earplugs and go to sleep.)

We live in a really boring town, and the helicopters fly over our house at all ungodly hours, too. We chalk it up to the cops being bored, and taking a little joyride on 2 million taxpayer dollars.

I had that same problem when I lived in Roswell, NM. But it was every night.
