Why do lower income neighborhoods have crappy lookin lawns?
the grass is dead in the summer. weeds grow up the sides of the house and over the sidewalk.
Not all houses, but most of them.
Don't they have pride in their property?

Different social classes have different standards of living. You can bet the inside is clutter, unclean and unattractive (to a middle class person) as well.

I buy homes in these areas, ans consequently own a couple dozen. About 1 in 10 residents, owners and renters alike, take pride in their homes, inside and out.

I am lucky enough that over half of my renters do, but I always compliment them (it honestly helps) and I will send my gardener out a couple times a year to do heavy maintenance since they do not own edges, trimmers (neither do I) etc.

Most homes in low income areas are not owned by the resident, the landlord has to take some of the blame, even if it is just not making his renters keep it up. I pitch a complete fit, ie threaten to evict, if it gets bad. I have "landscaping maintenance" on my leases.

Depends on the situation. Some may be working 2-3 jobs and have no time to take care of their lawns.

Some of it has to do with the neighborhoods not having an HOA. Without an HOA, the homeowners will not be fined for not taking care of the property. They can paint their houses a pepto-bismol pink and keep their junk car propped on blocks in their driveway because to them, it may be a piece of art.

Some may be abandoned or in foreclosure, etc. Some may be rented and the renters do not want to take care of the lawn. And, many low-incomers are elderly and are unable to cut the grass and usually do not have anyone to cut it for them.

And, yes, some people take no pride in ownership!

Well I got a family member who is kind of poor and can't afford a gardener and works two jobs. I guess they're too busy trying to survive on crap wages and keep their kids clothed and fed to be concerned with the flora outside their house.

most of the time, they don't have the money to hire a gardener or landscaper and/or they don't have enough time to do their own lawn due to working, etc. it is not that they don't have pride in their property, it is just that they are too tired/worried/stressed to worry about such a trite thing as the lawn. if i had a lawn right now, it wouldn't be manicured either. i would be in one of those lower income neighborhoods or an apartment because i am a full time student and hold a job. there would be no time at all to fit in mowing the lawn unless i want to do it at 12 in the morning.

its simply not their priority in most cases. they don't feel like anyone cares what their yard looks like so why put any effort into it.

If they have low income what makes you think that they have the money for yard care?

They can be very proud of their property, but if they do not have the money for maintenance then it doesn't matter.

Stop being so judgmental and worry about your own property.

Few are working allot. Most are lazy, high, just don't care.

my house is a lower income home...we do our lawn...it looks pretty shitty......on the other hand i was working in clifton nj and saw a home of high income and a beautiful lawn and landscapers working there while the owners were at work......its just all about money....im sure diff classes of people too have an effect....im sorry to say but there is lower class and higher class people but money has nothing to do with it
