Why do people like to live in $900,000 'condos?'?
I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I've grown up here all of my life, and I hope to move away into a nicer area further out in the country, at some point. I'm tired of the city...it's not 'convenient' by any means...6 million people packed into 29 counties is far from convenient. lol But anyway...

I see lots of those signs that people put up on the side of the road, advertising for housing and such. Only these are professional developer signs...advertising condo's. Condominiums and 'townhomes' are just a fancy way of saying "spiffed up apartments" to me. I guess I'm wondering why anyone making enough money to buy one of these....is stupid enough to do it? I live in the city...I understand the 'convenience' and such...and I see that when they are closer to some major area/attraction, of course they cost a lot more.

But realistically...$900,000 could buy a pretty big, new house on a ranch, in a peaceful country area. A house with no walls that are joined to some other neighbor's walls, apart from just the people living there in the house with you, of course. Why do people like condos? I don't get it. Many of them around here seem to prefer to rent for extremely high payments each month; sometimes twice or more what our mortgage is on our house - and we're buying our house. When they move...they'll have nothing out of all of those thousands of dollars they have paid in rent. So...why do people do this?

Some people just like to get into the kind of "My toy is bigger than your toy" kind of thing, so they could just want to show off :D
If they're making a lot of money, most of the time they will want to do something like that =

In real estate, it's location! location! location!

You wonder why these people pay so much to live in these places, but suppose they work right near them. I can tell you that a 5 minute commute in Atlanta is worth its weight in gold when you're looking at 45 minutes to an hour. That's extra sleep, extra time with kids, and a lot more free time.

It's also closer to nicer restaurants, to meeting points with friends, and all the like.

It's all about the life you want to lead. Even in the country, things can get expensive. Take a look at the price of land near Jackson, Wyoming. You'll see what I mean. ;)

Hey, I live in Georgia too. Your about three hours away from me though.

Don't worry, I hate the city too. I moved from Ohio which is all farm land. Barley any cities were I used to live.

I don't even know why people try to buy these things.

I think that its to show off there money and act cool.
Honesly I don't care for this.

We I move, it'll probably be back in the country.
Jeez, I miss my extremley big feilds.

Because condos don't require the same level of maintenance. when I travel, I just close up the condo and don't worry about it.
