JOHN Y | Why does the UK not build enough new houses? |
|
|

More or less Cosmic

They have built enough houses, but many property developers, who encourage the tearing down of perfectly good residential housing with gardens, are now throwing up hundreds of flats, which are still out of the price range of young buyers! Many are bought for renting out to holiday makers as well as students.
When the interest-rate bubble bursts soon, and house prices fall, then we will see a change in the house market, and possibly a glut in the number of properties! |

That bloke

its the people in the UK that build houses, dummy!
and if theyre not building houses theyre busy making more people!

Its not leggo land, the quicker they go up the more they need to build & so on & so on & so on.... |

Because the most expensive part of developing property is buying the land. When you build, you make more money by nuilding and selling 50 flats than the 10 houses which require the same amount of land.
As for how many flats are being built, where I live, every last plot is being built on. |

Most developments are for flats and apartments.Because land is scarce and the dearest commodity in building, developers will opt to produce the maximum properties per acre which means flats, which give the biggest profit. Houses are still built , but mainly upmarket ones that reflect the land used and the quality of the build. OK if you can afford the best part of half a million pounds.People art the lower end of the scale have to either rent or enter into the fray for one of the under £200,000 houses that come on the market. These will mainly be older houses.Estate agents in most areas are frantically trying to obtain properties to sell.r. |

From what I see each time I return to the UK, there's a lot of new homes being built, but not enough AFFORDABLE new homes, ie., for first time buyers. Too many young people are having to take on huge mortgages, in order to get a home and this can put a big strain on a marriage/relationship. If you try to rent, the monthly rent is usually as much as an average mortgage and while you're paying that, you can't be saving for a home of your own - so young people with 'average' earnings have a difficult time either way. I found an article on the website below that does seem to give hope! |

it build as many as it can but people are needing houses due to expanding families quicker than houses are being built, then you get all the immigrants coming in and taking the houses that us british need, our country is very small and short of houses and jobs as it is we should not allow anybody else in our country |
