johndehaura | Why don't estate agents put the asking price up on their "For Sale" board's? |
Additional Details If it's OK for old Bob down the road to stick up a bit of paper in his old Ford Fiesta saying:
FOR SALE
New MOT
6 Months Tax
Good little runner
£400 o.n.o
Then why isn't it alright for those selling their homes?

because its meant to make you think 'i wonder how much that house is', then you go on internet, into shop or phone etc and find more information out about the house whilst on your quest to find the price, making you more likely to fall in love with the house and not be as bothered about the price as you would be if you saw the price on the sale sign. |

Most owners probably wouldn't want a pricetag posted outside their house.
Also, knowing what price the house is might influence your decision immediately as to whether you go to view the house or not. But, if you have to make a telephone call to find out the price, chances are that you are interested enough that the Estate Agent will be able to talk you into viewing the property anyway. |

That would be vulgar, even for estate agents. Who wants a price tag outside their house. |

An estate agent friend told me that they will not usually put any detail on the boards so that people ring up and they can sell them other properties.A bit like many fish swimming but one bites the bait and is hooked.Estate agents often put for sale signs above shops or in high rises even though none are for sale,so that people ring them up.These types of properties never take the signs down as everyone thinks someone else must be selling,so it stays there for years |

i would say it would be an invasion of the sellers privacy.if someone is that interested and wants to know how much a house is going for they can look in the estate agents window or web site |

because prices are usually negotiable and if they put up a price the would be constantly running around changing them as people reduce prices |

Realtors use flyers for that purpose it is much softer and does not insult the neighbors. |

Currently - because by the time they put the board up the price has dropped a thousand or so. |

As electron says, they used to - I can remember the price of £4,250 being on the board of my parents house - Those were the days! |

Because you want them to call with the enquiry and then you have more chance of selling the house. |
