Michael | Why don't white female real estate agents like to work with me? |
I've been looking for rental properties as investment for over one year, and have changed more than 5 real estate agents in 15 months. Three of them lost their enthusiasm after a couple of months, and the other two just found excuses to cease working for me after a few contacts. They are all while females, aged from 30's to 60's.
I am a decent and well educated Asian male, and immigrated to the U.S. two years ago after retiring from a professional management position. There must be some reasons, probably of cultural differences, that they don't enjoy working with me. Am I too serious, or too professional with all property information well searched by myself making them embarrassed? I hope to get an answer from other agents, particularly from other white female agents. Thanks. |

As a 22 yr veteran in Real Estate and also in the age group and a white woman, I may be able to give you food for thought. A Real Estate agent is an independent contractor, male or female. We adsorb any and all costs created in our business practices.
My opion is: This is a business decision, nothing to do with your origin. If you placed unrealistic offers, or because your financing may not go though because of your immigration status, or the time you demand does not justify the gain, these would be the most logical reason why over "15 months" you can not find an agent to stick with you.
Advise: When you are looking at real estate purchases.... Try to look at what makes since to BOTH the buyer and the seller. If you were the Seller... would your offer make since? |

Ya' know , it is kind of like a man who has been married six or seven times ..saying that there is something wrong with women instead of looking into a mirror and assessing himself ....
If you have had FIVE Realtors; I'd have to say that somewhere along the line , there is a problem with you .... Perhaps you just come off as being arrogant or snobish etc .... or maybe you actually are ..who knows ?
In any case; I'd suggest that you find a MALE to assist you from know on .
Also; since you already have researched the properties ... why do you even need a realtor to begin with ?
Go ahead and buy investments that are for sale by Owner and save a few $$$$ along the way . |

I am not an agent, but I can tell you that you more then likely disrespect them.
I am willing to bet you have problems with all American women, not just white ones. |

Maybe the problem is you, not them. |

Perhaps your arrogance is the reason why they don't like working with you. I would say after 5 agents, you are the problem. |

You may want to consider how you present yourself to them. I'm not a white female agent anymore, but the only change is the agent part.
There are not a lot of Asian men where I live now except doctors, but my experience while living in NYC was that Asian and Eastern men tend to treat women as servile and inferior. I can tell you right now, we don't like that. And we won't tolerate it. People in general react to you based on the way you behave toward them. If you're pleasant and respectful, you'll get a much than if you someone as if he or she is inferior.
How do American men react to you? Do they lose their enthusiasm too? It could be you come off imperious or rude, and Americans just don't accept that very well. And it may have nothing to do with being Asian or male. You could have an attitude that annoys both men and women. |

After months of helping you look the realtors think that you are not a serious buyer. Have you even put any offers in? They think that all you are doing is just looking and therefore wasting their time. They made the judgement call that you are too much work because you might just want to look and ask for comps and make them work, work, work. Most people that are seriuos about buying make the decision within a few months time. When I started looking it took me over one year to find aproperty because I was too scared to commit. My realtor sensed this and left me alone. When I was ready to buy I called them back up. I actually think that you are concerned about losing money and need more education in this field. If I were you I would use the interenet to find properties and educate myself with the values then I would contact a realtor. |

Have you ever watched the folks in Chinatown in San Francisco board a bus? Push, Push rush, shove, squeeze........how frequently do you brush your teeth and how dare you call the most diverse nation in the world of being culturally biased. |

I'm a white female agent who has worked with Asian men and Asian women as buyers, sellers, and other agents. I haven't had any problems with most of them. I did drop one because he wanted too much for too little money and I didn't see the point of wasting my time.
I doubt you are embarrassing them. |
