Because, as they see it, people with bad credit are a higher risk. There is a greater chance that they will stop paying rent, if they have a history of defaulting on their debts.
The costs and time involved in evicting someone are huge, so they will usually be pretty careful about who they will rent to.

It's not thier problem that you don't pay your bills. they figure if
you won't pay your bills, you won't pay your rent. Why are you looking for a place.

Yes, and the rent has to be paid. People with bad credit have attitudinal dysfunction, and would be more likely to get a bad attitude and just up and decide not to pay the rent.

Why deal with this sort of thing when you can get a tenant who does not have this problem?

Would YOU rent to someone who doesn't pay their bills? You still have to make your mortgage payment as the Landlord.

Because people with bad credit don't pay bills, especially the big ones like rent. The landlord isn't in the business to give out free housing. And you are right 'you still have to have a place to live' so think about that next time you decide not to pay your bills on time.

There may be a variety of reasons why you have bad credit, but as far as landlords are concerned that's your problem.

They look at the fact that statistically speaking you are a much higher risk as a tenant than someone with good credit. Someone with good credit will be more likely to take care of the rental and pay their rent on time than someone without. The main reason for this is that someone with good credit wants to keep it that way, whereas someone with bad credit does not seem to mind if their credit gets dinged again.

This does not include everyone, but it is statistically proven. I have known some people with awful credit that were fantastic tenants, and people with great credit who ended up being lousy tenants. Unfortunately, these last two cases seem to be the exception.

bad credit means you don't pay your bills on time. why would someone trust you to pay on time when the record shows you obviously have a hard time with it?

STIFLE IT LIBS
Move to the ghetto. The rent is cheap, and you shouldn't need good credit.

because people with bad credit have already proven that they cant pay their bills, either on time, or they drop out of something without paying for it fully. so someone doesnt want to rent something out to someone and then they leave in the middle of the lease. u can sometimes find places that will just go off your previous rental history and if u have kinda bad credit they wilkl require an additional deposit. it is hard to work with. most of the time u just have to pay extra.
