It's not necessarily. If you do all your own work and buy discounted materials, you could probably build for less than it would cost to buy. If you hire out the work to others, it might cost more.
You can buy a house for $50 thousand or $50 million. You could build a house for the same range of prices. Trying to compare the two is pointless. |

1. Currently, because of all the foreclosed homes on the market, existing homes in many places are selling for less than it costs to build a new home.
2. Building just one of anything usual costs more than buying one of a large group that were built at the same time. A builder can put up 100 homes for much less than 100 times the cost of building just one. Therefore, when you buy 1 of the 100, it costs less than building 1. |

your assuming that everyone that builds a house does there own work.If you have to hire out contractors labor is where the costs add up. |

It's not just the actual construction materials and labor (even if you are qualified to do your own work). It's permitting, design, inspections, utility hookups, etc. Those are expensive items - all carry big fees. |

i think this is because the cost of materials keeps on changing. and first of all you have to spend money in purchasing a plot. then you also need to pay engineers and contractors. whereas when you buy a house you need not to make that many expenses. the rate is depended on the size and area where the house is located. |
