Why would two apartment complexes give me different responses about my credit on my application?
One apartment complex I applied to came back declined because he said I had "major credit issues", and another place I applied to said my credit came back "perfect". So, I applied at a 3rd place, what should I expect, and how can the two reports be at such opposite extremes? Or were they just lying to me?

Blunt Honesty
There are three different credit reporting agencies. They could be pulling from two different ones or they each have their own definition of what it is acceptable.

2 possibilities

1. They may be checking your credit report from 2 different providers such as Experian or Transunion...but overall it shouldn't vary as much as it seems like in your case.

2. They might have done some kind of check with your earlier residence and one of them didn't get a satisfactory response from them (not very likely that they should get different information)

whynot
it sounds like someone didnt want you to move in

There are 3 major credit reporting agencies, it depends on your overall score and which agency they used. Might be a good idea to get a copy of your credit report from all 3 and fix any possible errors. One agency may have info another doesn't.

There are 3 different credit reports, and most places only use 1. They can differ in the score in major ways. Go to freecreditreport.com and get a copy of all 3 and see what they say. This way you can clear up any problems.

Anytime you are turned down for credit, you are entitled to a copy of your credit report. If you had no major credit issues, you can file Dept of Housing complaint against the complex that said you had "major issues." There are several credit reporting entities, such as transwestern and equifax, and they may have different entries on your reports. It would benefit you to find out what is on your credit report. If there are errors, you can write to the entity to correct the error. Good Luck.

There are 3 credit reporting agencies. There may be some information that is listed on one that is not on the others. This happened to me, and it was how I found out my identity was stolen. The good new is, since you were denied, you are entitled to a credit report. Check with Transunion, Experian and Equifax.

Maybe the apartment complexes have different standards for their tenants. Maybe one only accepts tenants with very high scores. They could have also checked your credit with different companies. I know there are 3 different credit agencies. You may want to get a credit report to see whats up. You can get them online for free.

They could be using to different credit bureau's. They could be using a independent person to do their credit checks for them. they could be doing it on line. Best way to find out for yourself is to do a credit check on yourself, you can do this on line, twice a year for free. I do not think anyone is intentionally lying to you, this kind of thing does happen. Do your own report and carry it with you.

One may have gotten a report on someone else. By law they are required to give you a copy if you ask. Check it out and see who is right.
