Will the council help if iwe are evicted by our new landlord?
will the council help me to be rehomed if my new landlord evictes due to rent arrears occured with my ex partner.I have 4 yiung children and am 4 months pregnant with my new partner

moonpig
They have to help, they may put you in a hostel til suitable accomodation comes up. then you will have to take whatever property the council first offers you, if you turn it down you will go on the end of a very long waiting list.

Phil McCracken
They are not obliged to house anyone these days, being short of houses because of failed greedy Thatcherite policies. But they will certainly prioritise you because of the children. Just don't expect to be handed any keys tomorrow.

i hope not...there are many deserving people waiting on the council housing lists..why should you jump the queue just because you & your partner cant manage your own finances?!

Yes they will be able to help by paying an x amount of money towards your rent. This amount of money depends on how much the council think that a similar property in the same area is worth. The council will not let your lanlord evict you just like that!!! There is a shortness of houses and more people in need of them.
How come your ex left you with arreas when it is a new lanlord? Did you kick your ex out and brought your new boyfriend in??? Unfortunately the council has to help, but if that was the case and it was up to me, I would make sure that you couldn't have any more children unless you could look after them, and tell you to sort it out.
Most men are looked down because they leave their children behind, when in reality it is women like yourself that drain this Country and make men look bad.

Yes they will and as you have kids and are pregnant you will be high priority. But you need to act NOW, as it can take a few months. They will be able to temporarily house you till then but it may be in a dump of a house till a suitable one comes available.

Lemony
They will help if and only if they decide to class you as homeless. You should go and talk to Citizen's Advice.

They will help even if it's hostel accommodation and they have to give priority to pregnant women and children. The arrears shouldn't have happened anyway. You must be claiming benefits. Did your ex-partner leave you because of your new boyfriend? This is a drain on our society and you should have taken more responsibilty you could have used contraception instead of bringing another child into the world and expecting to be kept Child benefit should only be paid for the first two children and then after that you should be made to keep them yourself by working.

Andy F
They may put you up in a refuge or B+B, but they are not obliged to provide you with a house, especially if the reason for eviction is non payment of rents ( even if it wasn't your fault).

Good Luck and I hope you get you and your family sorted as soon as possible.

yes...go register now before your evicted it saves time.
councils will normally only help when your about to go on the street so having an eviction order is sometimes an asset and will get you help faster.
Saying that councils can be a real pain and the paperwork you have to fill out is massive... but worth it...they may be a pain sometimes but they generally do help as much as they can.

Being pregnant should automatically help you get a council place...you will of course be offered only 1 place which you must accept or go without...take it and do a council exchange a year later...at least you've got roof over your head to start with.

Best of luck to you and your family..and the baby to come.

If the arrears are caused by genuine hardship they should. Some councils have a new system of allocating houses so you need to go and see them. They should advise you on how to go about being rehoused. They should have a homeslessness officer, or be able to refer you to CAB, Shelter or someone else. The first thing to do is to try and negotiate payment of the arrrears with the landlord. If he agrees, then the problem is solved.
