Kyle | With HOA fees how often do they go up? |
I am interested in buying a house that has HOA fees I have heard the good and the bad on HOA fees. Does any one know anything that may help me? How often do they go up? What are the restrictions of livings somewhere with these fees? is it worth the money? thank you very much |

The restrictions will vary depending on the HOA. Some HOAs are very lax and some are not. Mostly you have to get approval before you can do anything major to your house that changes the appearance (re-landscaping, painting, roofing, etc), you can't park things like boats or RVs on your property if it can be seen from another lot, you have to keep up your yard, etc. Basically they want you to keep your property looking nice and pay the dues on time and don't be a jerk to your neighbors. If you do those things you probably won't have any issues with the HOA.
Whether it's worth the money or not is subjective. HOAs have different amenities and different costs. Mine is $300 annually and we have a pool, park, walking trail, soccer field, and basketball court. My coworker lives in one where the dues are about $250 annually and they don't have ANY of those things yet because the subdivision hasn't been built up enough. So while I feel that my dues are going toward something, his really aren't. I don't mind paying mine for what we get but if I were my coworker I wouldn't pay for literally nothing in his HOA.
If you're interested in buying the home, contact the listing agent. S/he can probably get you the information on the HOA rules and dues. The rules and regulations of the HOA will stipulate how much and when the fees can increase, and they'll let you know what rules you have to abide by if you move in. However of course, even if the rules seem excessive realize that some HOAs will strictly enforce and others may not. To find that out, go have a look at the house and talk to some of the neighbors. |

It is not worth the money.Check into all of the HOA's that you can get information on. They can raise fees at any time and in any amount. There is a large amount of law suits filed against HOA's all over the county.Never get involved with a HOA. |
