I'm in the Sarasota-Bradenton (FL) market, which was insane from 2003-2005, then everything started to dive, but it's been a slower dive here than other areas of the country. However, just south of my area is the Port Charlotte/Northport area (hard hit by Hurricane Charley) and its been a DISASTER down there. My co-worker has been trying to sell her house in Northport for over a year, and even with her realtor slashing the price to "fast track" a sale, she had one offer whose financing fell through, one joker offering to "take over her house payments" and her neighbors across the street and next door disappearing, leaving the homes behind. I knew things had gotten bad down here when they stopped converting apartments to "condos" and they are now sending things to me in the mail about how I could own one of these "condo conversions" for less money than the rent I'm paying. This won't end until the last of the bad mortgages hits the courts with foreclosures. Then, I'll take another look around and see what's available. People and banks need to realize that somethings are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. |

I think the "too many nests and not enough birds" building craze of the last few years has a lot to do with it. Two to five years ago the home builders were selling newly builts like crazy (which devalued older nice homes), but were really slowing down last year before the housing crash hit. My girlfriend took over a year to sell her house that's only five years old. Plus took a pretty substantial loss, but she's just glad she's out. |

We sold a house in Illinois in Oct and bought one in Minnesota last month. Somebody bought the house across the street from us in Minnesota two weeks ago. I think it depends. |

I'm in South Carolina and the market is down. If you watch the morning news and are following the home market at all, they have noticed only small pockets of selling territory.
It's bad everywhere. Too much over building, I think. They say it's the worst we've had in years!
It seems the lower priced markets are moving, the entry level, first home buyers. Even condos and townhomes are moving some. And the high upper range is ok. Not as much competition there. |

We bought our house 16 months ago, and the two other houses on our street that were also for sale??...
Still for sale, along with 2 or 3 more... :-(
Unfortunately... (Although, optimist that I am, it has kept my property taxes from rising yet. I live in Central Texas and we've been, so far, cocooned from the really bad housing issues.) |

I'm in MI and no they are not selling.
The house across the street has been on the market for 2 yrs.
The house next to us was on the market for 18 months before someone bought it. They were in it for 2 yrs. and just moved out, we're thinking the bank took it back. |

Houses priced for the market in my area are selling. Those that are holding out for their dream price are not even getting shown. Right now, price is king. |

Wow. I wish that was the way it worked around here! Houses are selling to the rich who buy them and sell them for a more expensive price! I live in BC btw. |

We've had a house on the market here in Alaska since last August and it hasn't sold yet. I think the high and unstable price of oil and inflation have something to do with it. |

I live in CA and about two years ago now the housing market skyrocketed like crazy. Three bed. two bath. were selling for up to $400thou double or even triple what the owners payed for it. Now however it has slowed down tremendously and a house down the street from me took about a year and a half to sell and sold for a little over a million. It is a very nice house but I don't think the market will ever go back down to normal. Also a lot of people have lost their holmes due to interest rates in their mortgage payments around my area. |
