Most banks don't help with overdrafting fees. I think credit unions are more lenient. But banks are firm, I've argued with them and lost hundreds of dollars over it. it totally sucks... :( But that's one way on how they make their money...and they don't care how poor we are. Messed up. |

Not unless your mother owns the bank. No, you bounce a check, they'll take that fee before anything else gets paid. It's one way they try to keep you from doing this again. |

Call your bank and ask them. Be nice, apologize for the situation and see if they will let you make payments.
I'm guessing you can't make payments though because they never agreed to lend you money in the first place. What you can do is take your paycheck to the bank it is drawn on to cash it. Then, go to your bank and deposit some money into your account. Keep doing that until you get your debt is cleared.

A bank may on occasion waive a overdraft fee, but they usually only do so if it is an occasional mishap that caused you to be overdrawn. If you are continuously writing checks against money you do not have or you are sending checks to pay bills hoping the money will get in your account before the check posts, you are stuck! The best thing to do is not write any checks until you actually have the money to cover them in your account.
The reason overdraft fees are so high is to discourage you from becoming overdrawn. And borrowing money to pay the overdraft fees is a bad idea! You would still owe that money, although it wont be to the bank, but now you'd have to also pay interest on it!
The bank may work with you on this, perhaps setting up some form of payment plan, but I would imagine that they would also freeze your checking account until you are paid up. But don't count on it!
The only advice I can give you here is to find a way to pay those fees, with out borrowing any additional money and then learn to manage your account better. |

The bank will usually give u sufficient time to pay back any negative balance. Only thing is, any deposits made will go to the overdrawn balance, so if you do not have direct deposit, take the check somewhere else to cash it like walmart or so.
By sufficient time, depending on how much u owe, maye 60 to 90 days. Then you are notified that you're acct will be closed with 30 days and reported to chexsystems. so that actually adds up to up to 120 days.. 4months that you can possibly have! after that tho, they close ur acct, forward ur debt to collections which will not only ruin ur credit but also because of chexsystem reporting, not allow u to have a checking acct for five years.
so reflect on your priorities... |

Don't deposit the check. They are going to take them. Get a money order to pay your rent or use a family member's checking account |
