Would you ask your landlord first?
If you were going to get a small caged pet... such as hamsters or mice would you ask your landlord if it was okay first??

The apartments I live in allow cats.

I was a landlord previously for 7 yrs & it sure will be nicer to ask if you ask me. Most of the time it will be a positive answer anyway unless you are a bad paymaster. Most landlords want to maintain a good relationhip with their tenants so it's usually a yes :)

Sweetharttt
Sure, why not ask first. You might get points from the landlord for being considerate.

I would ask just to make sure, but I bet it will be ok. I mean they let cats in so why wouldn't they let in something smaller?

Naked Rider
yes.....you need to ask!!! if you dont see something in your lease, it would be in your best interest to ask the landlord.

lol i didnt and it says you have to before getting a pet...but i thought they might think badly of me having guinea pigs in there :P

☼AstrologerJuliAnne☼
I think hamsters and mice are not going to be a problem as they spend the majority of their time in a cage. Cats wander around the apt and can scratch things, have *accidents* and cause other turmoil! LOL

Depends on the landlord. I've had really mean/over-the-top/check-on-me-every-day landlords and I've had landlords that didnt even see me when I paid monthly!

If they allow cats I would assume a caged animal would be fine.

James Miller
It is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

I am a landlord and I like to know what is going on, but I wouldn't be upset if I found that a tenant had a small caged animal. To me it is comparable to a fish.

It is pretty easy to play that off as "I didn't know."

The real question is "what are you going to do with the pet if the landlord finds out and disallows it?"
