Would you buy a house on a busy street?
We found a house that we really love. The only problem is, it's on a busy street. It's not really really busy, like highway busy, but it is a main thoroughfare. I have children too, small, we also have a garage that i will park my car in for them to get into (this is what I thought). This is the only downfall of the house. Would you do it?
Additional Details
this house does have a fence with a big backyard and it accomadates our family. Like i said, the street is the only downfall. It's not in the city either it's in the suburbs. I am just concerned about living on a busy street. Also, i am not concerned with the noise. The bedrooms are in the back anyway. There are several lights on this street too and you can't go that fast.

i live on a busy street its never really bothered me kind of makes me feel like im near civilization. i go back and forth between here and my school which is in a secluded area. definitely prefer the busy street. just teach your children not to run into the street and you have nothing to worry about. i say go for it!

We bought a house on a busy highway. It was definitely a lot cheaper because of its location. After buying it we did find out a few things. First, parking is a pain because there is no parking on the highway. This means any busy "events" held at our house, we need to shuttle people because our driveway is so small. The second is that mail is not delivered to our house. Otherwise, you get used to the noise and the street light blaring in your bedroom. We have small children over a lot and fencing in the yard was definitely worth the money!

Does it have a yard to fence in so the kids don't get in the street ?

snowwolf
If I like the house a lot, I would but would have it fenced in around the yard so the kids would be safe. You could ask to have it fenced in as a part of the sale. Sometimes they will go get the sale. Good Luck

If you want to sell a car or yard sale and such it is good. You can watch your kids or put up a fence of some sort. Take into account the noise of traffic when you try to sleep. Can you turn the car around in the driveway as to not have to back out into traffic? That would be my big concern.

No. Unless it is for investment (rental).

I actually wouldn't but that is just me...I have lived on a no-through road all my life. Even after i moved out of home I still bought my house on a no-through road and I think it is the best. With a busy street it is not only dangerous for children but also for animals if you ever decide to get pets and also there is the noise. You may not know this now but how long would it take you to try and get out of your driveway in peak hour traffic in the morning for work? Personally i wouldn't buy it unless you have been looking for such a long that that this house is the only one that comes close to what you have been looking for, otherwise i suggest you wait and find a house you love in a quiet location.

Find out if the city ordinances allow you to place a fence before you buy the house. Some cities do not allow fences and evaluate if that can keep your children from going outside and darting out into the street. I would buy it, YES, if I am allowed to fence the children in. Best of luck!

I personally wouldn't because I hate busy street the sound of cars whizzing by ext. I prefer more of a country setting.

No One day you will want to sell this house and it will be hard to do so and I believe a home should also be looked upon as an investment it can make a huge difference to your financial future

I always thought about it. I remember driving home and seeing houses in the corner of some busy intersections. Like you said, not highway busy but still busy. It depends. Do you mind the noise? You WILL hear horns and stuff throughout the day and possibly the night. Also you have to make sure your children don't play out into the street. Personally I live to live NEAR these places, but not right in front. Just my opinion though. Hope this helps = )

i bought on a secondary road that was opened all the way and became a main thoroughfare. my biggest complaints are 1) trying to back out of the drive way in rush hour. I have to pull a u-turn in the drive and pull out. 2) The booming music from the idiots that keep their bass too high. 3) Speeding is a serious problem. My speedlimit is 30. I gave the cops permission to pull radar in my drive. They told me they caught someone doing 63 mph. Keep in mind-it's still a residential road with no curbs or sidewalks. People walk down the road all the time. 4) Snow plows go very fast and throw the snow over the entire driveway! Other than these, it's not that big of a deal. Kids around me stay in the back yard, I turned up my TV when I need to, I keep after the cops about keeping traffic slow and I own a snow blower! Honestly, if you like the house, it's a good price, go for it. A home is the best investment you can make.

People speed. Just make certain your children have no way of getting out of the yard without you supervising. There have been many incidents where a little kid get out and walk miles from their house, only to be kid-napped AFTER they were already out.

Ultimately, it is your choice.
