Would you buy a house that you know someone was murdered in? Thanks.?
We are considering buying a house that is now in foreclosure, but we heard that a recent murder took place there. A teen killed his mother! Then, left her in their pantry for a week before anyone came looking, then found her. Son was arrested. Would that completely deter you from buying, no matter the deal on the house? Please be honest. Thank you.

you said to answer honestly. my honest answer is yes. i would still buy the house. if it were not people who i knew personally, and therefore i had no personal attachment, no memories of the people in the house ,etc. it would not bother me and should not bother you. just look at it like there are alot of nasty and gruesome things that have happened in many places in that you have been such as a hospital bed or hotel. i understand that you will not live in those places as such your home, the only difference is know you that a murder occurred in the home, but it really is not that different because someone didn't tell you that someone may have died in the hospital bed that you took out your tonsils, or the hotel room that you slept in for your summer vacation. but they might offer a good deal on it because of the know publicity surrounding the house and murder, it's in a good neighborhood and good house,,,go for it.

As long as it's been properly cleaned up, which I'm sure it has, then I'd buy it.

No that would not deter me from buying if it is a good buy and I like the layout of the home and land. You are after all looking for a home you like and a good deal. My logic is simple, if I was on the market to get fixed from an accident or a sickness I would not choose the hospital to be taken to, based on how many people died there.

As long as the place had been completely cleaned up, I would buy it.

A house like that is what we call stigmatized property; it has a mark against it. But what is stigma to someone might be fame to someone else. There is no accounting for taste. I understand that the In Cold Blood house sold for a good price precisely because of its infamy. In California the seller must disclose any deaths on the property, murder or not, within that past 3 years. The duty to disclose something particularly gruesome might go beyond the statutory time limit if a court were to rule that it would likely be a material factor is valuing the property by a reasonable buyer. Personally, I think I would pass on a house with a violent past. I have no objective reason for saying that, but I would just prefer not to have my home associated with something like that.

I myself wouldn't by such a house. It could wind up having a ghost. There will always be the lingering scent of death in the house even though you can't smell it.

I don't think I could do it. Just the thought of a murder there would keep me up at nite. I would keep searching. Good luck.

Mmmmph, good question. I think I'd be inclined to pass this one up and keep looking. If it's a terrific bargain and you love the house and neighborhood, then buy it, but have your priest or minister or rabbi come in a pray with you. Or something. It's NOT haunted, but a little peace of mind and energy-changing couldn't hurt.

NO WAY, NO HOW!! I don't care if someone was giving me the property for free I would not live in it and for sure would not buy it because then I would be stuck with it if I did not feel comfortable there. Guess the question depends on the type of person you are. Me I am a chicken!!!

justaboutme
yes, that house is creepy and i would stay away

If you like the house buy it! People die every day and in every way! This land is old...very old and chances are in some time or another... someone has died or has been killed in the very spot you are now living in. Don't worry about Mama she has passed into the spirit world, and is busy there in her new (after death life). You need to worry about the" living" they are the ones that can hold weapons that can hurt you! Spirits cant do that. So if its a safe Neighborhood...buy it! And don't worry about the victim....she is pain free and with loved ones...she's happy! Just keep an eye on when sonny boy gets out of prison....he is the scary one!

From an investment perspective, I would be hestitant strictly because of the resale market. It wouldn't bother me to live there, but if this is a notorious crime (sounds like it would be) and everyone in town knew the house the murder took place in, I would think it would hurt the resalability of the home.

Look how many people here have already responded that they couldn't live there. A small sampling, but I think it is realistic to believe alot of people wouldn't want to live there.

I would pass. There's too many other deals on the market for that...unless they were giving it away I wouldn't buy it.

I would buy it, if you don't someone else will and you will just be missing out on a great deal. I don't believe in spirit or haunting homes. go for it, good luck

ELFMAIDAN
No I would not. even if it were free and I would have no taxes on it. You may laugh but I believe that the anger that caused that teen to kill his mother is still in the house. Also I f you believe in ghosts. Her soul maybe trapped in there, unable to get out.
Also I don't think there is any way that someone can get rid of the smell that is there from when he left her there for a week.

I could'nt do it. My husband works late and I would be so scared. I'm kinda scared of everything though so I don't know if that counts.
