Like others that have responded.I would talk with the neighbors to find out what the problem is.I bought my first home and found out later that the family we bought from were the terrors of the neighborhood. One of their kids molested another kid on the block, another of their kids set fire to the elementry school and yet another was a skinhead who hung out with his buddies and intimidated the neighbors. The day after we moved in we had several neighbors come over and tell us how happy they were to have new neighbors and in 13 years there never had one problem.I buy if the problem was the owners and not the house itself. |

I would ask a neighbour. |

How do you know that the owner was hated? Just because of the eggs? Could be pranks done by kids when they know it isn't inhabited. I would however poke around and find out some things about it so you won't be completely in the dark. Talking to the neighbors would be a good start too. |

Doesn't sound like that great of a neighborhood to me if people let their kids run around rampantly throwing eggs at houses. I would look for a house in a different neighborhood if I were you. There are bargains everywhere in this economy. |

I would go back to the area and try and find out from the locals what has happened there.
If it is something to do with the house (ie. something bad happened there) i'd give it a miss. If it was something to do with the occupant then i'd go for it and be extra friendly to everyone in the area. |

the neighbor will see you will be the owner so if its a good deal i would go thru with it. |

Yes, why would they hate me just because I bought a house.
The owner was probably just some old guy who had to deal with kids on his lawn or something. |

Ask some of the neighbors what the deal is. It sounds like emotions are running high and you shouldn't have trouble finding someone who will talk to you. Odds are this guy is just a dick, and if it's an ugly house in a great neighborhood it could be a heck of a deal.
Also check to see how often this house has been sold in the past - your realtor can do that for you if you don't know how. Have your realtor ask the seller's realtor what the deal is, too. That way you can compare stories. |

I'd be more concerned with the vandalism aspect than the current owner. Talk to a few neighbors and see if they know why this is or if it's a common occurrence in the neighborhood with other houses as well. |

It's worth buying but try and get to know the new neighbours. |

It can't be that nice a house if it's had eggs thrown and windows broken. Nice neighbours don't do that. I would be very wary, if the people were disliked, there's got to be a reason, what if they were bad debtors too? You will end up with other problems. If it seems a bargain it's because something is wrong. You could ask the local neighbours about the people that live at that house if you are really keen. |

I would imagine that people have targeted because it's obviously empty, not because of anything to do with the owner.
Once you get it smartened up (e.g. windows unboarded) it will become obvious that it isn't empty any longer, and no-one will do anything to it. |

Buy it but throw a moving-in party and invite your neighbours that way word will soon go round that the previous owners are gone.
Before moving in I'd ask around the vicinity to find out why they were hated and why they moved. |

hmmmmmm i would take some time and ask around the local neighbourhood first.
See what reactions you get to telling them you may by the house, any negative, reconsider
Personally i wouldnt do it, but thats just my opinion |

It could just be from teenagers messing around, but then again. If there is someone bad, or something, that lived/happened there you may not want to buy it. Maybe those people will be out to harrass you if you do. |

This is why vacant properties are unwelcome, they become targets. I would contact the local patrol cop and chat with him, as well as the neighbors.
Why ask total strangers here when the people that know are right in front of you? |

no because if people hate them wouldnt they do bad things to your house? You would also be hated or live in a CRAPPY house. |

Whayever the owner did or didn't do will be no concern to you ... buy the house if you want it. The neighbors will see new people (YOU AND YOUR FAMILY) move in .. clean the outside .. make it a priority to spruce it up and make it look like yours ... I doubt very much that the neighborhood would be against you ... They will probably be happy to see the other owner is gone.
You can also go and meet some of the neighbors before you buy the house , to set your mind at ease . |

Maybe you could knock on doors and ask what the problem is there. If the owner is dodgy maybe the neighbours would be glad of a new neighbour.
The owner could also be very nice and a victim of harassment. Harassing someone and causing criminal damage to their house is a crime. If I was the owner of that house and had lived in that house I would be very frightened.
You seem to be acknowledging that you know the victim / owner. If you hate this person are you comfortable buying their house. What is your reason for hating this person? |

As long is they are not gang related I think you will be fine. Just get to know the neighbors and it should be fine. If they are throwing eggs then I wouldn't worry that sounds like a kid prank not a serious threat. |

Just because the house has been vandalized doesn't mean the owner was a bad person... I'm not sure why you'd think that. Since it isn't being lived in currently, some neighborhood kids probably egged it to be... well, kids. We don't know if it's worth buying because we haven't seen pictures and you didn't give a price. Most homes need a little TLC when the previous owners have gotten comfortable and slacked in the maintenance department. Only buy if you're willing to accept a challenge! |
