Blah | Would you buy your dream house if....? |
... you would have a little over an hour commute one way to work? (that's one hour of straight highway driving, not bumper to bumper traffic) Let's keep in mind said house is on 8 acres of property, pond, ATV trails, no neighbors. And let's say that you're now in a house in the city with neighbors right on top of you, a ten-minute commute to work one way.
Also, let's say that dream house is priced very good because it's in the middle of nowhere, and if this house (not counting property) was in the city it would be a good $250,000+ more than it's priced at now.
Even with the crazy price of gas, what would you do? |

Go for it. Many of us commute an hour each way and we live in the city. |

Yeah! I would!!! That would be heaven. Now is the time to purchase, it is a buyers market. The property could hold its value, plus, if something happened. I think you would be able to split the property. Good Luck. |

This drive will cost you about 1,000 a month in lost time.
This drive will cost you about 800-1500 a month in higher fuel and operating expenses on your car (you will be driving about 30,000 more miles a year).
Is this house worth 2000 a month more. The more expensive house would only cost you 1500 a month more. |

You have to consider not only the commute, but your lifestyle. If you are the kind of person who enjoys staying home on the weekend to enjoy your home and property, then go for it. But if you enjoy going out on the weekends, you are going to be commuting for that also. If you are close to retiring, go for it. |

Absolutely, you have to think of the big picture, and if fresh air and quietness is your thing, you should take up that option, petrol prices are out of control and yes, anything you can do to help yourself and the environment is valuable, try to adjust to the new life, it is so rewarding, hope this helps, goodluck to you! :) |

Add the price of gas and other expenses of your commute, such as the cost and upkeep of your vehicle etc. Then figure up you income verses you over all expenses. Do you have enough for emergencies, for up keep of the home, food, clothing, medical, etc. Will you then still have enough to put into savings for retirement? if you can answer yes to all of these, then go ahead and make your purchase! |

I would definitly buy my dream house. You have a great oppertunity to buy your dream house, which is what i assume you've always wanted. An hour commute into a city is not that bad considering what i know of some people doing. Also, gas prices mught be high, but you will get better than normal gas milage on straight highway driving and you could even consider buying a more fuel efficient car with the money your saving. It sounds like an amazing house and i think you should take ful adavantage fo this oppertunity. The no bumoer to bumper traffic into the city is alo a huge bonus, not that bad of commute. |

Hell yes! And I would take the train!!
Most people spend their life working up to the next house to get next house to get to the house that they finally love and then it is time to retire so the downsize again.
If you have your little piece of heaven now, go for it.

I like the city better but depends on what type of job i do if im a lawyer than i would be in the city but if just work in an office i would like the quietness of the country.
Also all the courts down here are located in the city thats why as a lawyer i would be in the city.
P.s the one hour can be 45 mins on a bike and at high speeds |

I would say if you had kids, then no. That's two hours you could be with your children. And if an accident happened with them while you were at work, it would take you an hour or more to get to them. If you don't have kids, then I'd go for it. I personally wouldn't because I hate to drive. |
