I would think about it very carefully. Being friends with someone and actually living with them are 2 different things. When you rent an apartment with someone, you will be entering into a contract to pay rent, take care of the property etc.. If you do not get along, or one roommate leaves or cannot pay, you may wind up being responsible for the rent and/or damages and have your credit and rental history ruined. Be careful and make sure you have reliable room mates. |

I am currently doing it right now as a matter of fact. It's not half bad as long as you get someone who isn't too uptight. My old roomate used to get pissed off about EVERYTHING all the time. Whether it was leaving the cap on the toothpaste off, or throwing out the moldy cookies that were sitting in the fridge for a month. |

Yes. I bought a townhouse in the Northern VA area and had roommates for 14 years. If it hadn't been for them I would have been unable to have traveled, gone to the beach weekends, had parties and bought clothes. I am a female and I always had female roommates.
I never did a background check but I did take references and I have called some of those. Most of all I just went by instint which is probably not that wise in todays world. I had 2 master bedrooms so my roommate had her own bathroom in her room, access to everything in the house except my bedroom and the same for me.
An additional fact, because of the area and the high cost of housing, I sold my townhouse for 3 x's what I paid and moved to SC where housing is much cheaper and retired. |
