Would you live in a double wide trailer vs. a 4 bd home if the 2001 double wide and land was paid in full?

I would not mind living in the double-wide. Being that it and the land are paid for, you could always save your money and build a really nice house behind or beside the double wide. Not having to make a house payment would be heaven!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with living in a double wide mobile home. I personally like a lot of land, I live on 2 acres in a dw mobile home. So, yeah, I would do it.

Freeport77541
you live where and what you wish to afford. If its free take what you would normally pay for a mortgage payment and put that amount every month into a retirement account.

A home is a shelter from the elements and a place to raise a family. Working 70 hrs a week just to make a absurd mortgage payment on a poorly built mcmansion and having to fork out bail money and probation fees for your kids because you did not have time to teach them right is no way to raise a family

I'm assuming the house isn't paid in full? If I have a free double wide trialer or a house I have to pay off, right now I'd go for the trailer.

Tammy
Depends on alot what the double wide looked like how much land etc.... but to have no house payment or land payment sure!

Of course! Once you have the land, you can always build a regular house later! Turn the mobile home into a carriage style house for the inlaws or guests. Or, rent it out to worthy renters and have them pay the your mortgage by renting the mobile home!

Never give up a good deal on land.

A double wide? Sure I guess if I didn't have another choice. I rent out places and I mostly buy doublewides. If it is a current model, then it can be very very nice. It would depend on if the double wide was nice like the ones I purchase, or old ratty and run down and like a trailer. But any time you get a chance to live somewhere decent basically 'free', go for it.

I would choose the home because that is considered real property, doesn't lose value and wouldn't be a problem selling down the road. The double wide trailer has to be registered and licensed at the DMV or BMV, depreciates quickly and is not likely to be an easy sell.

NO! No offense to anyone out there who might live in a trailer, but why would you want to live in something that can be wheeled away?
