I would rather rent. no property tax.

Jessie is a Hardy fan
property tax in my area us hellatious. I like renting something breaks i call the landlord someday i want to own.

Christine M
own
this way you are investing your money and not paying someone Else mortgage payment

wizjp
what do you have after 30 years of rent? Nothing.

Own. Property taxes are pretty reasonable in some areas.

Why rent and pay for someone elses house. Like mentioned already, What do you do in 30 yrs when you have rented all your life. A home is the best investment you can make, why not take advantage of that...

Well there's advantages and disadvantages with both. Renting there's no property tax and you feel like you can move houses at any time. With owning you have the feeling that the place is yours and you worked hard for it. But, with renting you can't make major changes to your house as easily as you can as if you owned it. And also the landlord can kick you out at anytime. But, with owning it costs more and you have to worry about selling it if you want to move and you have to pay property tax.

Personally, I would rather own.

Star City Girl
Right now I'm fine with renting, I'm 21 not married and no kids, when it's time for me to settle down, then I'll buy a place to live!!

Well since my property value is in the crapper due to the economy right now i would like to rent because I cant refinance.

Otherwise when the property value comes back up, I will own because there is no landlord. Plus you get huge tax breaks on your income tax...

Julia M
OWN. No more landloard.

Jay
It really depends on your financial situation. In reality for the most part it is usually better to own. But in crappy markets, and places where rent is extremely cheap then it can possible be more financial beneficial to rent.

I would rather rent . don't have to take care of maintnance problems .

chatsplas
Own. I'm building up equity with my payments, rather than giving it up to landlord. Like being queen of my own domain. Hate paying property taxes, but my kids have excellent schools. Get tax deduction for mortgage interest and real estate taxes paid.

mccray_51
To heck with property tax. Nothing better than owning your own space. It's worth my mortgage, taxes, insurance and maintenance my return: a great feeling of pride and freedom not to mention the great investment advantages .... priceless!

Over the past 30 years (chasing jobs),
I've lived in six different States,
so owning a home was never an option.

Unless you are in the type of job or lifestyle that involves LOTS of travel and frequent changes of address, only a complete IDIOT would ever rent as opposed to owning.

Imagine this: 20 years of renting an apartment averaging $650 per month would be enough to afford a $250,000 house in a nice neighborhood, and when the 20 years of renting are over, what do you have to show for it, NADA, ZILCH, and you have to follow the landlord's damned rules or be EVICTED.

When you PURCHASE and OWN a house or condo you have something that you can use as a loan equity, collateral, something you can sell for mucho profito, or something to leave your ingrate relatives when the Grim Reaper a comes a-callin'. Capisce?

Dummies rent. Smart folks BUY!
And for other things, no scam is scammier than the RENT-to-OWN bullshit. You could buy a good used couch for $100 out right or you can rent to own some cheap crap made in Taiwan and end up paying $1200 for a couch that cost the company about $100!

Once again, in case you weren't listening.

IDIOTS rent.
BRAINIACS purchase outright.

Exception: Those who have frequent changes of address like families of career servicemen or similar occupations. These folks are SCREWED smart or otherwise.

michaelkeasler
depends on the area and who your landlord would be. I would rent and save up until i retire. thats the best and safest way oyu never know when you might have to move
