Would you still rent a house if you hated a bathroom.?
So theres this 4 bedroom 3 bathroom home that i liked.....better than alot that ive seen.....the bathroom in the master has the most outdated toilet.....a pukish green color which is soo ugly.......i want opinions because im debating with myself..am i being to difficult.....i mean there are 2 other bathrooms but this would be the master one....also pest control would fall on me......i thought normally it should be the landlord who takes care of that but dont know if im right?
Additional Details
house was built in 70's so im guessing its the original toilet

A green toilet?

Replacing the toilet is not a normal thing that the landlord would do. You can't dump them, you have to pay a fee and they are disposed of as hazardous waste.

I would likely rent the house and have someone haul the landlords toilet down to the garage and buy myself a nice, attractive thrown. Just remember to put his back when you leave. Or you can ask to replace at your expense.

I might if I thought I could make the puke green bathroom work with lots of white towels, rugs. etc.Pest control often falls on the tenant. I'd talk to neighbors in the area to see how bad pest are and what they do to control the problem

Since you're only renting -- not buying -- it seems a little petty to turn down a house rental because of a toilet's color. It could even be considered retro-sheik.

If it bothers you that much, ask the landlord if they are willing to change the toilet or offer to contribute toward a new one. Also, if it's an old toilet, you could also ask for a more environmentally-friendly low-flow toilet. Your landlord's response will probably depend on your rental market's conditions (i.e. high demand/low demand) and whether you're an attractive tenant (i.e. financially sound, rental references, etc.).

Legally, the landlord is ultimately responsible to make sure a property complies with pest control. However, conceivably a rental agreement could require you to be responsible for pest control too -- especially since its a house and not an apartment. Check your local/state laws regarding rental living conditions.

If everything else is liked, the rent is reasonable, looks like the landlord takes care of business, the neighborhood was right,etc.....I would take it. You could talk to the landlord later about maybe replacing the toilet for a more efficient one. Then you'll end up with a plain white one.Until then you could get a rug set for the bathroom, that would help cover things up a little.
As far as the insect control,.I've only had ants .If the house is infected with roaches then I wouldn't rent it for any amount.Look in the drawers and cupboards for dead roaches or their shell piece(I think its the egg sack) and the droppings(poop).Once you got one roach you got thousands.
good luck :)

The environment plays an important factor as house is the place for you to rest after a long-day work. If you do not feel comfortable, there is no point renting it. Unless you are buying the house, you have the option to renovate according to your preference. If you are renting the whole unit, you may need to be responsible for everything during the rental period (example, the electricity, water bill, etc). To have better understanding, it’s best to check with HDB.

Well, think of it this way--every time you use that toilet, you are making an opinion of its color.

And, if you rent a house, yes, you are responsible for pest control, generally.

Always check your state and local landlord/tenant laws!

Do you not like the bathroom because of the pukish colour only or is there more to it?
If you hate it because things are filthy and impossible to make them clean again or really old/rusty etc. - I wouldn't rent it myself.
Bathroom is the place where you go first thing in the morning. I hate when it's all filthy and stuff.
I don't think your being difficult. Maybe this outdated bathroom could be a good bargain point for you to get the price lower than it is now?

the bathroom in the hosue i am renting next year is supersmall and the toilet seat is brocken, its old as well. i consulted with my landlord and he was happy to fix it. it is their job to provide their residents with proper living conditions.

Well I'm like that too. If you don't like something then you don't like it and thats just the way it is. This is what it all boils down to. Is a pukish green toliet going to stop you from putting a roof over your head? Whats more important something that you take a dump in or a home?

well just redo the bathroom if you're planning to stay there for a while.

If it's only cosmetic, I would still rent the house and ask the landlord if he would either reimburse you for remodeling or knock off some of that month's rent. Personally, if that was the only problem I have, I wouldn't care what color the toilet was. Use a lid and top cover, if it's that bad (of course, that might be even tackier!) If pest control isn't offered by the landlord, then it's an option for you if you choose to do it.

if you like the rest of the house the toilet shouldn't matter. you're just going to potty in it anyways. usually landlords do provide pest control, but not always. depends on how the rental contract is written up. if you like the rest of the house, go for it. you're not buying it so you won't have to live there forever if you find something better.

Ask if they can replace the toilet, or if they would let you! If you like it & the price is right, go for it!

We BOUGHT a house with an ugly bathroom. Of course, we changed it out, I don't know if you can do that. But if you love the rest of the house and that bathroom is the only deal breaker I say go for it. You're only renting it too.

The pest control should be the responsibility of the landlord.
