Oceana | have you ever moved into an apartment then you moved back home cause you couldn't afford it? |
i'm trying to talk myself out of moving out. i mean i like the responsibility of it and all (exp. with parents away on trips) the thing is i'd prolly do a lot of worrying about expenses and never being able to shop for fun again.
Have you ever had to move back home because, you couldn't afford it and it was bothering you? Please tell me all your experiences on living on your own. I don't know if I'll ever move out but, the desire is there. The fears are in the way. |

How the heck old are you? If you are an adult you need to move out...it is part of life and a normal part of growing up. It seems your parents did not instill any confidence in you... you should be excited about moving out. My daughters (for all good reasons) moved out at 17 when still in high school...working part time and managed to afford it... so no great wonderful shopping trips, but that's life, you have to learn to stand on your own two feet and you can't do that living in mommy and daddy's house and having them coddle you and support you. Sometimes you might struggle and find it very hard to make ends meet, but that is when you learn to use your own inginuity...you can decide to find a way to earn more money, pawn something, get a loan, turn in some empty pop bottles, whatever it takes. What would you do if your parents were suddenly gone...would you be able to handle looking after yourself? You got to learn that before they aren't there to back you up. Also, do not keep in your head that backing you up means that you can always move back into their house...that shouldn't be an option, it isn't for our children and never was for us. LIFE! |

Well, you will sign a lease, so moving back won't be an option for at least 6 months.
Do your homework so you know how much it will cost and then start saving THAT amount right now and every month until you have all your deposits (first and last month's rent, security deposit, electricity deposit, cable deposit, phone deposit, etc.) PLUS 3 to 6 month's worth of expenses.
So, if you decide it will cost you $1,500 a month to live on your own, start saving $1,500 a month until you have $4,500 to $9,000 PLUS three month's rent and your utility deposits.
This will take you at least 4 months and you will know then if you can afford it. Even if you get out there and run into trouble, you will have a good emergency fund from which to draw. Try not to use it though. |
