I want to buy a very unique anti-theft device from gyec.com in China. It's the only place that sells this item currently. The company has a website and seems to be legitimate. Before I send over $300 of my hard-earned money, I would like some input from anybody with good advice. Thanks.

It is always a good "rule of thumb" to only spend high funds on products that you are purchasing from companies that have "land stores" available to you, should you have a problem and need to return the merchandise.
I would first ask that they send me company brochures, product brochures. I would check with the Better Business Bureau to see if they have any info on them thru their database.
The problem with sending the money is there is no way for you to press them for returning your money, should they be fraudulent. The Internet makes anonymity so easy; better for crooks who want to cash in without fear of getting caught - or even prosecuted.
If you can be patient and wait until other companies carry this product, then you may come across a reputable company that may cost a little more - but see it as insurance.
EBay may help. Sign up with Paypal, see their insurance about fraud and that may be a safer route for you to pursue in purchasing products from unknown unverifiable companies.

I worked in banking for years, and sadly saw many cases where people lost out on hard earned money by responding to these companies. Just be careful. I would definitely use pay pal, but then again I probably wouldn't do anything at all if it were me. |
