The first step is to determine what business you want to start. The best business will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while another person would rather watch TV than take care of dogs.
The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources.
Dan Ramsey in his book "101 Best Home Businesses" has a chapter on how to find YOUR best home business. He suggests these 10 steps:
1. List 5 things you do best
2. List how others would benefit from what you do best
3. Find out how to give people what they want
4. Learn the value of your services to others
5. Find out who else offers similar services
6. Learn from the successes of others
7. Learn from the failures of others
8. Plan your own success
9. Make low cost mistakes
10. Enjoy what you do and how you do it
Then make a trip to the library. Borrow books about how to start a business. If there are books specifically on the business you want to start, borrow them too. It is important to take initiative to learn about what starting a business entails, particularly the business you are interested in.

It may help you if you could talk with a small business expert or free mentors to give you ideas on how to make your dream of starting a business come true even without money. Here are some places where you can find a mentor:
- Government Mentoring Programs such as SBDCs, which works with community colleges and local business development councils to offer mentoring programs http://www.sba.gov/sbdc/sbdcnear.html ; or the Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training http://www.sba.gov/womeninbusiness/wnet_roundtables.html

It depends on your natural abilities and things you can learn. Here are some options:
Companies outsource work these days… check with local businesses. Offer services and keep accounting and payroll records for them on your home computer. Write promotional materials. Learn how to design websites for them.
Offer your services as an interior decorator. Lot’s of people don’t have a clue when it comes to decorating, furnishing, and organizing their own home. Keep before and after pictures of those big transformations; that’s for your next sales pitch.
Do home upkeep or gardening for your neighbors. Grow fresh herbs and organic produce for your neighbors. Grow and sell exotic plants.
Today’s digital cameras make photography quite easy and inexpensive, so become your neighborhood photographer. Set up a little area with a drop cloth for background and you’re in business for portraits.
Good at picking up treasures at yard sales? Maybe the antique business.
A free resource on how to start your own business: "Go It Alone"... find the book at...

Contact your local SBA or Small Business Administration..they sometimes have seminars..they also give out loans. If you have a good business plan and presentation. For Example. I want to start a cleaning company right. Low overhead just supplies. I get an occupational license and file for a fictitious name. Yes there is a form for that in case I want my co name to be Sparkly Maids or whatever. Then open a business checking account at your bank . Then you start opening your first accounts and go to work. Definitely use the SBA. Also you might want to consider filing to be a sub chapter S corp if you plan on a bigger business and alot of accounts..then I would suggest having a Corporate Lawyer or even cheaper a paralegal file all the above forms for you. You can do it all yourself. But that's alot of paperwork. If you have employees you are going to be responsible for Workman's comp insurance as well as
depositing their taxes into an account that is received by the IRS. You can avoid that by paying them cash as "independent contractors" then they are responsible for their own taxes. You just have to account how much you paid them and get a form from the IRS called a 1099-misc and
just plug in the amount of cash paid by you to them. Good Luck! |

I am a mom of 4 and have been working from home for 4 1/2 years. The support group I am in offers free support, free training and free website to help you along.
It has been great being able to put my kids before work. I work around their busy schedule and it is a HUGE change from working outside the house where they would get mad at me staying home if one of my kids was sick.
I would be happy to share all the details with you .. dont worry, it isn't MLM, so there isn't a HUGE start up fee.
It might give you the options you are looking for.... |

i think it is impossible to have/run/own a business without knowledge as to what that business requires.
You have kids, is there an opportunity to offer day care for one or two others. |

i make 100.00 for about 2 hours. I usually work friday nights, saturday mornings, and Saturday nights. So... I earn 300/wk, but you can earn more if you work more. I have a website that talks about how i do it.
