I never work as a telemarketer, I did work for a telemarketing company as a computer designer of their computer system and I talk to a great number of telemarketers.
First there is two kinds. Incoming and Outgoing.
An incoming telemarketer doesn't call anyone. Instead simply answer the phone and take orders. Given that your pay is very good and it is part time. I suspect that you will be an incoming telemarketer at peak hours. Usually 8:00 to 12:00 and 4:00 to 8:00. This is a fairly good job and requires typing and a good telephone voice. It is hectic and can be boring in the lulls. I would definitely ask for a headset and a wireless computer.
Now if you were going to do outgoing calls. These are cold sales calls to customers. This is hard work unless you are are a really good salesperson. If you are, then the first thing you need to sale is a reasonable quota and a real good commission to the boss. After that you can gain good credit as a point salesman for your resume. In a six months to a year you should be able to go to any big company and sale your services for big bucks. They are always looking for sales persons with a proven track record. |

They pay very well for the entry skill, but that is partly because they are considered very stressful. Many people make it a game to mess with or yell at telemarketers, and you have to be nice to them. They have a very high turn over rate. So it depends how much beratement you can handle. |

Yeah, the money is good. The work is terrible - imagine being called names all day long. But heck, that's what work is - getting paid for things you wouldn't do in your free time. |

Depends if you like to be hung up on all the time, and if you like disturbing people on there free time. But if yu are after the money, then go for it. But I hope that you dont take rude and angry people to heart. |

Telemarketing is going to be a frustrating job, but if you can get past the people that are going to be rude to you and focus on the fact that you'll make good money if you make sales, it should be fine. Good luck!! |
