Nope... as long as it's with a legitimate company. (I would be wary of any of those "online / work at home" type businesses.)
I know of lots of data entry jobs which pay anywhere from $8.00 - $16.00 an hour. |

Unless it's your own business that you are running and in control of, any online offer for work (more than likely) is a scam of some sort. That would include data entry, telemarketing, etc. |

yes, data entry jobs are mostly scams...
what your mom need to do is a lot more than just thinking about "getting a job"...
because honestly, online world is different from offline world.
In internet, people don't go and hire somebody from somewhere ... you need to be more specific than this.
1st. freelancer do get paid. And they get paid doing article writing, website development, programming... etc.
2nd. freelancer are not doing everything. If somebody is writing articles, then that's all they do - they write articles.
3rd. there's no "easy money" or "easy way" to get started.

Some of the companies are a scam. If you have to pay any money up front then its a scam. But there are companies that are legit... one of my mom's friends does data entry from home and makes good money too! Just look for one that asks for no payment or any weird unusual personal info and she'll be good! |

they're scams to the extent that they ask you to pay to buy the software + "leads" and there is really very little chance that you will get anywhere with those leads.
I tried to do the one for medical billing b/c that was my field way back when but the software they sent me was outdated and half of the doctors listed on their lead sheet were no longer practicing.
stay away from anything that wants money up front. if they're legit, they'll work out some sort of commission schedule.
that said, if it's straight fee for work gig it could be real and decent money. transcribing is one example-you get a tape and you have to type out the report (using a program that you already own <MS Word, etc>) and bring/mail the report back. |
