I have been in the C-Store buisness all my life, and 10 years ago, I was given a chance to lease my own station. Now it appears that my love for my wife, and dedication to my kids, and my job, is about to put me out on the street. My wife has a gambling problem, and has along with employees that has worked for me, has milked me in the thousands, for over three years. Im on my last days joggling the vendors, bank accounts, etc., and have no borrowing power left. I hocked my home that was payed off last year, and all of it was put into my store. I havent been able to find help, due to the public is aware of the wifes problem, and they dont wont to get framed, for any theft, to cover her gambling. My health is failing, and it is just us two that is working the store. I know you are going to say get rid of her, get another job, etc., but with the debt I will leave behind, they will be looking for me, to garnish my wages where ever I go. I have made money! Its gone! |

First thing I would do is talk to a lawyer who specializes in bankruptcy. With his help you can freeze your assets so that your wife can't spend any more of your money. Next he can help you talk to the bank about possible options. Go in there yourself and you'll get railroaded thru the system but take your lawyer there with you and they will take you seriously. See what they can do for you and weigh the options. You may not have to file for bankruptcy. Then talk to your vendors. Ask for extensions or pay plans for the time being. I can almost guarantee that none of them want to you loose you as a customer so they will help you out of this momentary jam. Finally cut back on as many expenses as you possibly can right now. Put as much cash as you can back into your pocket, cancel cable, drop your cell phone down to the barest possible plan, clip coupons, etc... As for dealing with your wife, if you can forgive the hardships she's caused, get her help. If you can't forgive them, get a divorce. I hope things work out for you. |

First, if you belong to a church, I would encourage you to seek the feedback on your situation from the pastor or priest. Whether you're a believer or not, it is helpful to have the power of a praying church behind your efforts. Second, definitely seek help for your wife. She desperately needs professional help and because her addiction has continued for so long without it, a long road to recovery can be expected. However, each individual case is different and there is always hope for a fast recovery. If she is in denial, it will be tough, but if she admits her addiction, then the process will be much smoother. Filing bankruptcy doesn't seem to be a bad idea. At least you can keep your home (and at least one vehicle), but I think they both must be under a certain value. |

I know this is a problem you are facing ,i know a imilar person who lost her houe due to her in abilty to pay her mordgage . You know life is full of challenges and we hardly know how to survive in some difficult situations.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Most people are broke because they dont realise that they are broke. Job is good to have till better things come along. Never trust the job as secure. There is no such thing called security in the job as the employer can fire the employee any time with 5 minute notice. Starting a small business with no capital investment and setting a game plan to implement and work accordingly during the weekends and weekdays evenings without affecting the job schedule and working partime can create significant income. There is one such business in my knowledge called financial industry business. Helping people understand how money works will eventually lead you to make money. That is the reason, poor people are always poor and rich get richer.
I recently joined a great home based business. Its a Financial industry business. We work hard for money, But rarely we understand how to make money work for us. we make money, and we save in the bank. The bank give us 1 to 2 % interest and they utilize our money to invest and they make more than 12%. They know how to make money work for them. Because of the growing demand, people wanted to know what the bank does to make profit.

Sounds like you have waited too long to try and help yourself.
You have the option of bankrupcy and keeping your home.
1st priority is to dump your wife or seek help for her.
I think you could use a "tune-up" yourself! |

It's never easy to give up your business. You've obviously put in your sweat, blood and tears. I think your best options are to sell the business or Chapter 11 my friend. Even if your business reached it's average profits or top profitability consistently for x number of years. How long would it take to repay the debt? Would you be financially strapped for that many number of years? You risk heart attack stroke - You're kids need you. Time to evaluate and execute an exit strategy before you loose any more money or your own life. |

SELL man SELL the store- before you lose it. Then pay off debts and cut your wife off of money to use for gambling. If your wife is gambling at a casino you can talk to them and they can make it harder for her to gamble there. (you could sell and still work there if you work it right). |

you need 2 seek councilling or something like that. and get your wife into rehab. im sure after that your life will back on track.
why does your wife have gambling problems...? maybe shes depressed?
my boyfirend has gone through the same thing cept it was his mum who was a gambler.

My advice to you is to declare bankruptcy and then you will get rid of your business debt. Next advise all the other people that you owe money to like the credit card people, gas company, electric company, phone company etc. that you and your spouse have separated and you no longer will take responsibility for her bills as of this date. Then get a safety deposit box in your name away from the bank that you usually deal with and put whatever little money you have left into it for your own future survival and I wouldnot get a lawyer because as soon as you do they will start charging you big time, follow. Handle all the replys to her lawyer yourself including court and you will save yourself about 10,000 dollars or get a para legal if you absolutely have to or better still go on legal aid and get a free lawyer. If she asks you for money tell her no, and suggest for her to go out and get a job so she can deal with her bills. Move to a different area and start new. I to was in the food business as a wholesaler, lost money for 30 odd years and finally got out and started making money again in my own little business completely different from the food business. The change will be good for you it will clear you head and your hurt, like a breath of fresh air. Don't worry about things that you have no control over and stay away from that woman, no contact if possible, only in court. Now you will have a life. Thats all I can tell you for now. |
