put on a red suit, carry a red bucket and say, "ho, ho, ho. Marry Christmas" and walk around town...you don´t have to ask for donations, people will just give to you, or you can try odd jobs, depending on where you live, shoveling snow, raking leaves, you know, "yard work" :)

i am not sure if what you are talking about is an orphanage or just for the kids in the town who's parents are having a rough go of things.....what we do for our community xmas project is give out $10 gift certificates that can be used at local stores....video store...pharmacy....etc....we get the money for the gift cetificates from the community....they hold a dinner at a restuarant and charge so much a head.....every guest brings in an item and it goes up for auction...there is this lamp that is the biggest thing and every year it gets recycled....it is the ugliest looking thing...lol....but that is what makes it fun i suppose....they make thousands of dollars on just that lamp alone...so you find a place that is willing to help you out w/ that amount of people for a charity benefit as such....and sell seats to go there....
also for the comminity xmas project we do this thing on the wall....made out of colorful hand cutouts and shaped into an xmas tree...on the back of the hand there is an age and gender of the person you are to buy a gift for and the gift can come wrapped or unwrapped...a flyer written up...for a spending limit....and also to remind the person this could be the only gift the child gets this year....it works cause the people who can't afford to go to the benefit will at least take a hand..distribute those hand trees at local businesses....and drop off boxes for the gifts as well....
as well as toys we also do a coat drive....for used coasts that look brand new.....and also new hat glove and scarf drives....
on christams morning not only do they get a toy but warmth as well...
also...can go around to local business and ask if the community drops off food can they save so much on their purchase in that certain store....so on xmas the local people can also have xmas dinner....
there is alot you can do....and it is amazing how a community will come together in times of need....especially around the holidays...and if you start a foundation like this and make its own bank account...you will be surprised the of the year round donations you get....best of luck ....i so hope you do well...it is such a good cause..nothing like a smiling child on christmas...that is what it is all about....well besides the christian part of it..my bad...

Golf tournament/ jail and bail/ bake sale/ sale Christmas items/ auction of donated goods/ Can you work with your local church or Chamber of Commerce. What about involving the Rotary Club or Lion's Club? Isn't that what they're there for is to do community good. Schedule to speak at one of their meeting for a few minutes and present you cause and see if they will take it up. Our Clubs are always looking for new projects. Talk with your City Counsel person and ask for help / suggestions.

Have people to donate good usable items for a garage
sale and use the proceed for the Kid's home. Garage sales
usually always bring in big crowds. Put our containers for donations too. Or combine a bake sale too. The best of luck.
It is admirable what you are doing.

you could do a sponsored run.

Could always do a sponsor a child program.

People love to see what or who they are helping. With the price of digital pictures today, it wouldn't be really expensive to get picture of the kids at the home, along with their age. Then ask a person to sponsor them for like $30, which would cover a present and movie ticket. We did something similar and had a great response.

If you work for a company with many people, do a contest with maybe your employer giving a reward (dinner for 2?). Have each employee see if they can raise money for donations by talking to other companies in your area.

You could do this on your own, just call the companies and tell them what the charity is for, make sure you have contacted the charity and get a letter of recommendation from them to show the companies to prove you aren't just collecting money, ask them to write checks out to the children's home, and make very sure to give receipts and keep a list of donors/$$ given.

You could get the kids at the children's home to make Christmas cards, copy and sell them to other companies or send them as thank you gifts after donations are made. Kids love crafts! (Well, most of them!!!)

Best wishes on this! and Merry Christmas!

we raised $ for a children's home once with a great house party. find someone charitable with a nice pad, tell everyone to get dressed up and bring some food. Everyone chips in $30, $15 goes to what they drink and $15 goes to the kids. If a house party is too low class go to a local bar and ask if they would give you a $15 open bar on a slow night for a good cause.

If it is a personal thing to raise money, try doing something wacky or not and getting sponsors for you. This could be, I'm doing a lap around town in a Santa costume, or I'm gonna see how many dances I can do in one hour. The point is your collecting money for a good reason and you provide a small to elaborate piece of entertainment for them.
