You might want to consider establishing a distribution network first by sourcing your products through current US based importers. Once your sales volume has reached sufficient volume to support importing container loads of material, you can make the move to direct importation.

I suggest you reconsider.
Importing takes a lot of cash on hand. First you need to buy in container load quantities. Secondly you need to pay for the goods prior to them leaving the foreign port. Then you need a freight forwarder, and pay for the container in advance. (Currently about $4500 a ctr). The you need a customs broker, to clear the goods, and pay the duty. Then you need a warehouse, and finally you need a customer. Once you ship the goods, then you have to wait for the customer to pay, usually 60 days from date of shipment. The customer will require that you have Liabilityinsurance of $2 million per occurence, in the event that your product causes a damage anytime in the future. |

Take into consideration both tarrifs (some are extreme) and homeland security issues.
If possible try and find a supplier in the good ol USA it is better for Us jobs and safer for the world. Not only that but as the 'newbie' of importers you are going to be low man on the totem pole |

Depends on where you want to import from. If from Mexico, then load up and sell. If from Asia or the Pacific rim get on line and locate manufacturers of what you want to import. Just google "manufacturers" and put the appropriate location. You will get a list from there.
A word of advice....shipping is very expensive from overseas. |
