Anybody know any legitimate work from home on line sites? In desperate need of income?
I have really bad migraines and just recently lost my job of 13 years. I live in a small town, not any jobs around here. I need to do something for income or will loose everything. Please help i have looked online for work at home jobs, but don't know which ones are legimate or just scams.
Additional Details
I am greatful for all of your comments and advice. I knew they had to be scams, but I have to find something quick. To make matters even worse my husband is just making me feel terrible. A divorce may come out of this. I hate it but something has to give. We have 2 children and r expecting our first grandson which makes things even harder. I was in the insurance business for 18 years but the migraines have taken over my life. I just have no idea what to do or where to turn.

I know quite a few legitimate work frm home on line sites. I'm not sure which one to refer you over to because I don't know what your qualifications are, your experience or what type of income you are looking into. If your looking for a home job where you work for someone else in an industry, then your income level would be minimum wage. After taxes are taken out, then your take home will be less then minimum wage. If this is sufficient amount of income then your on the right path for a home job. If it's not a sufficient amount of income, then you need to look into home based business opportunities in different industries to find one you could do, or learn how to do.
Again, without knowing your back ground, it's difficult to point you to a particular industry where you can apply for a home job, or can collaborate and have your own business within their business. So, at this point, the only thing I can offer is an article that has a lot of information on home based jobs, as well as home based business. A lot of information on how to determine if a job or a business is legitment or not. It also has a couple legitament jobs in which you can apply for the position, if you qualify for. It also has information on home based businesses with several different industries to look into for business.

I am sorry to hear your situation also. Gosh the economy has gone crazy, right! I know so many people getting laid off, or their hours cut, its just insane! And while everyone is making less, the prices of everything is going up! Its good you started looking into home based income. that's exactly what i did when I lost my job. There are legitimate opportunities available but there is unfortunately also a lot of junk. You just have to be careful and do your research. make sure you feel 100% informed and comfortable before commiting or investing in anything.Never pay for information, this should always be FREE. You should know everything there is to know about whatever business you are looking into for FREE. (some companies like to lure you and than charge for additional info!! SCAM!) I have a lot of experience in this and would be happy to help! Email me if you would like info!:) Good Luck!

"If a company requires initial payment from you in order to work for them, they are not legitimate."

There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills inc fast typing, may want you to know MS Excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but thats rare.

If you do an advanced search on yahoo, you will find previous answers, sometimes the info on these is good as the info they gave is likely to have been verified if the answer was voted as 'Best'.

The work from home jobs that aren't scams actually require work on your part - and if you're in need of money soon then you're likely to be sorely disappointed in any of those as well. Most of the legit opportunities out there take time to build - so if someone makes an outrageous claim of income it probably isn't true ( and those that are true sure didn't make that kind of money when they first began ).

Time & effort required - but do your own research on what is best for you, don't take the advice of myself and others as gospel from this type of public website.

I have other ideas that may help - one of them is an online opportunity but another is one that will require a little effort to market yourself - try some data entry for local businesses, many of them don't have the time to do it in-house and will gladly pay someone else to do it. Professionals are a good place to start, lawyers, doctors, chiropractors, etc - they need their "in-house" folks doing other things rather than busy work.

There is a lot of competition for work from home jobs. I got started using online freelance sites, and ultimately built a business with clients that I found through them.

http://www.scriptlance.com/ (Free - Best in my opinion)
http://work-at-home-tips.blogspot.com/ (Excellent info)
http://www.gofreelance.com/ (Free - Good site)
http://www.elance.com/ (Biggest, but kind of expensive)
http://american-data-entry.blogspot.com/ (Excellent info)

The first link is mainly programming, but there are other jobs there as well.

You may have more luck with the third website.

Slowhand
Having done exhaustive research on the subject I can tell you that I have yet to come across an on-line job that is A - honest, B - lucrative or C = of any duration. I have come across one or two that pay off, pennies at a time (cash crate) but no where near what anyone could live off of. They are generally just schemes perpetrated on the public to bilk said public of what little money they (the public) has left. Sorry to disappoint you.
