Anyone do Avon?
Being at home with my 10 month old at the moment I'm going to start being an Avon Rep in an attempt to bring in a little extra.

Anyone here do it? Do you actually make any money or (as someone told me) is it a lot of hard work for no reward? Any tips on how to make good commission? Thanks!
Additional Details
Looking through the Representatives magazine you can get some really good discounts on certain things - worth it with Christmas coming up!

My sister does it but only for friends and family. She doesn't make much money out of it she only does it because she likes Avon products.

I used to do Avon... I found it was great for meeting people, but the rewards weren't as high as I would have liked.. mainly because you spend alot of time walking around and going back when people aren't in.. As you have a young child it may work better for you as you could sell it through any mother and baby groups you go to...

If you like cosmetics then it can work very well because as the rep if you place your ordes carefully you get alot of frebies which you could then sell off or give as pressies to friends etc..

Just enjoy it - it wont make you a fortune but It can be good.

yes i do Avon, and unless you have alot of customers, then you don't make that much, you actually pay out a bit, they charge you for delivery, they charge you 25cents per customer, the only good thing about being a rep is you get the representatives book where you can order stuff cheaper than what it is in thte brochures, also they have the bb on the internet where products are extremely cheap, its fun though in a way.

Me and My Mum used to do it quite a few years ago. You do make a little money, not a great amount, but the more sales you get, the more money you get in. Ity is a lot of hard work, going to your customers houses, giving them catologues, then when you get the items you go and deliver them, and if they are not in, you have to go to that house especially. Lots of hard work, not much reward.
Good luck

my sister has been doing Avon for over 3 years now. It brings her a little spending money into the house, but she also works in the day as well.
She just complains because you have to pay for all the books and bags that you put them in. If you are promoting their stuff, you shouldn't have to pay all these things. I think you just earn a percentage of what you order.

I have a frined who has done Avon since leaving school 16 years ago. She earns a reasonable amount but does not declare it to the benefit agency as she has 2 children and even though she knows she is cheating the system, avon isnt a guarenteed income..........what you earn depends on what you sell. I think you need to establish some 'regular' good customers, I always order between £20 and £30 out of each book, and my friend earns about £6 -£8 pound off that i think. Im sure that the more you collect in, the more you get paid. Going by what my friend earns i would say YES it is a good little earner, but if you wont have regular customners it might not be worth your effort hun. Good luck.

Yes I do Avon. I've been a Rep since June 2007. I made it to sales leader in my second campaign.
I would like to point out that I live in the sticks, I do my own village and the next one. I have in total 55 customers, out of which only about four order every book. Most of the others either order every other book or less. I do about £ 350 per campaign (approx). Out of this I earn 25%. Which isn't bad, providing your not running a car around excessively.
What you have to be careful about is what YOU personally spend each campaign, don't buy excessively only buy what you need. Watch what your customers buy, then you can get an idea as to whether to try the moneymakers.
I'm on benefits, due to my husband being disabled, the DSS are aware of my earnings, I send them in regularly, so far I have had not earned enough to affect my benefit.
Once you know what your customers like, you'll be able to start earning more. You may even decide to be a sales leader. I enjoy meeting and chatting to my local community, surprising how many of them in my own village I didn't know, and I've lived here for 18 years, before that I lived in the next village over.
Good luck with it.

There are ways to market your AVON business to creates a better work environment. I offer my customer a small discount if they pick the order up from my house or come to my workplace to get it. (Only customers I've worked with for a while because I want to know them first).

This system works out well for me because I only market in my local area. I'm trying to saturate my area to make them believe I'm the only AVON lady around LOL

I don't carry an inventory so that doesn't cut into any profits.

I'm in Leadership and have a downline and get enough commissions to pay for my business tools each campaign so I'm not losing money at all even if I order business tools (books, samples, etc) to put back into the business.

Follow up and consistency is the key to success in any sales job and AVON is no exception.

The rewards aren't fantastic, although there are some. You also do get people in this world that don't pay etc. I still look at Avon and even shop from time to time from their website.

You can potentially make a lot with cosmetics but you'll need to get out of the house in order to make the sale.

I'm expanding my private label, on line travel agency. It cost nothing to become a REP. My parent company pays 100% of your affliation cost. No experience needed, because it runs itself. All you do is what you do online, talk to folks and ask them to visit your site. So when you have a second to yourself, please visit my site www.HotRateTravel.biz
The hardest thing about this is trying to decide what name to use for your site. Its an awsome biz.
