There is so much to say about every aspect of your question, and I'm sure there is no definitive answer. Perhaps these few tips may help
If you have access to Ebays Community Pages spend time giving them a good, unbiased read over a week or two. I have always found that 'good' sellers and buyers are amazingly free and honest with their Ebay advice as well as maybe a lifetimes business experience as well.
Ebay is a Marketplace, a mostly unrestricted forum for buyers and sellers to negotiate a fair to both sides price; sounds foolproof and fair, but remember it is real life not just economics.
As in real life, potential customers may miss your adds (eg timing and zones, holidays, illness irrational feelings about item/ seller . Others may be looking desperately for just what you have but just can't find your item - here where title and category become important factors. If you were a potential buyer how would you describe what you were looking for? So as with all else chance and serendipity come into play. al These following basic factors (already mentioned by others), I believe are musts to give you a fighting chance, but by no means a quarantee. A good clear honest set of photos is a must, ditto your verbal description. You can always talk your item up but a high paying dissappointed buyer is a recipe for disaster, and their comments may hang about and haunt you for years..
So be honest, clear, upfront and always mention defects. Likewise, building up a good feedback profile (your seller probity and reputation) is also an important factor.
Even if you do 'everything' 'right', this is still no quarantee of success, it just helps things along. And anyway how much is your item wortth?, and to whom at that particular day and time.
There may be a vast emotional disparity between the items value to you (say a chopper bike, Biba dress or your grandfather's war medals) This doesn't belittle your items but a potential buyer will be unencumbered by any such baggage or emotions. Like any other auction you also need at least 2 people who think they have spotted a bargain. One bid makes for a poor auction.
Regarding favourites lists, I haven't looked into them much and don't really use them, but I guess they are similar to being happy with a particular ambience, person or shop.
Theses, nay books and industries have been written on this theme, so there is no paucity of advice. But there is also the element of luck or chance here, so whilst there are ways of helping yourself there is no quaranteed right every time formula.
In summary, good photos, accurate description, being legal decent honrest and truthful and building up a good feedback (which is a time generated thing), are basics. It also helps if you have a good familiarity with the type of thing you are selling, are prepared to bite the bullet whatever you think of the final price and send it off quickly, well wrapped and at Post Office Prices. Also don't forget to factor in costs, fees and your equipment and time, learn from your personal experience and just hope you find a potential customer base who like you and your goods. All so straightforward and basic, but in reality OH SO HARD> |

Provide a good service when you sell something and they will want to add you to their favourites.
Try putting as much info about the product on the page as possible and always have a picture. I find that when I don't have a picture it doesn't sell. |

A good discription, clear photos are a must. Customer service is an important key as well. If you have a steady supply you can be sure to stay current and people notice, you have alot, and they will mark you as a favorite if you draw in their intrest.
Having a large selection of items is easier than you think, maywe suggest
http://www.stockmysite.com
they are very very good with customer service and keep your customers happy with fast shipping, they have over 3900 wholesale items you can list on your ebay and not pay any setup or membership fees, they do not charge an extra fee for dropshipping either.
Beat of luck

Anyone know?
|
I just thought you should know, that I spent nearly 10 mins writing you the best answer (been an EBayer since 99')....
...and then my computer crashed before I could submit it.
Oh well.... |

Well, on your first query the answer is 'the item is worth exactly what someone is prepared to pay for it - no more and no less'. So generally, on e-bay, as long as you are honest about the item and do not charge prohibitive amounts for postage etc, you should end up with what the item will fetch on an average time period... you may be lucky and get more, or unlucky and get less. If you do not want to let it go for less than a certain amount, then set the start price at that level. I HATE people who use reserves - it is no cheaper to them in terms of listing fees and infinitely more frustrating for bidders. Favourite listings generally come with people being happy with what you sell them, and regularly having stuff they want - a bit like good feedback. |

You can only hope that they add you to their favs list and that will depend if they are regular buyers of a product that you constantly sell.
Only list your items for one day and make sure it ends between9.pm +10 pm.people cant be bothered looking through pages and pages.Only list one item and put the buy it now price at what you think its worth and fill in the auction starting price 1 pence lower than that price. keep it real and don't go too high on your amount that you think is still a good deal for the customer. |

Be honest with the item description and if you dont want your item to sell too cheap research similar items to see what they seel for. Put loads in the description and despatch quicly keeping p+p prices as low as possible.
Good luck and if i buy anything off you i will surely add you to my favouries
Is that better.
Can i have 10 points now |

i put the starting price as the price i atleast want to sell it for that way atleast you get a good ammount for it but not to high other wise it wouldnt sell .
you can put a reserve price but that will cost you more its cheaper to just start it at the mimimum price you would accept and to get you to add them to there favourites just be a good seller post things quickly and package them well and be a god communicater and you will do well goodluck and have fun !:0) |

Lots of good quality photos - it's worth spending that extra 50 pence on photos. Also advertise in more than one catagory as the extra sale price will usually cover the costs.
If you can, work out your target buyer and have the auction end to coincide with them.
eg if you're selling something for personal/home use, try to end the auction on a weekend late in the day. If it's more a business related item, go for thursday/friday afternoon. Make sure you advertise for as long as possible (10 days).
And don't be afraid to put a realistic reserve just in case there's no buyers biting that week and your item has a pretty narrow market.
As far as favourites go - If you're selling similar items regularly, just mention that in your ad so people know they can find what they fancy by coming back to you. |

Either put a reserve on the price to what you think it should sell for, or start the bid at a higher price. NO ebay item is guaranteed to sell, all will depend on what buyers need. To get onto someones favorite list, you have to obtain a good reputation as a buyer and seller, your feedback is foremost the most important thing a buyer will look at. |

I put reserves on mine OR start the bid at what i think its worth
BE WARNED,
People want a bargain on ebay and if its above a tenner most people arent interested |
