IMO, most of the home based businesses that are established are going to be sales. Avon, MK, candles, Pampered Chef, jewelry, food, etc. There are many to choose from. Most offer a very low cost set up. There is a guy in my biz group that is with Shaklee and he once shared with me is was less than $50 to begin selling. I would imagine some are closer to less than $200.
My business is different. It is all me. I do sales and production. It cost us money for equipment and such. Working at home with a 2 year old has been really hard. If she is having a fit, it doesn't work well to be on the phone. I have had to find customers who are kid friendly. My daughter goes where I go. Most of my business is done via email and phone with very short face to face meetings. When I drop off products to the customer, my daughter is with me.
You will need to decide how your child will adapt to you working on the computer or phone. If he/she plays quietly alone, you will have the time you need for invoices or ordering. If not, you will be doing a lot of work when your child is sleeping. Best of luck to you. |

If you want something real, don't think "out there." You can use your computer to make money... there are businesses in your local area that farm out things like payroll and if you do a little homework, learn how to design websites for local businesses.
Find out what local businesses need and learn how to master that skill and you can build a good business that way.

There are a number of real legitimate business' out there that don't really require to much "selling" on your part. I have a list if you want it. I don't make money from any of them so I'm not trying to sell you anything or make money. I would say, first, with every offer you get or business you look into, Do you like it, would you enjoy the product, are you passionate about it? I started out in Cookie Lee which has a nice sized start up cost but I later found I liked making my own jewelry better, plus there were companies out there, like Jewels by Park Lane, that have an unlimited lifetime warranty, which CL does not. I don't rep for them either but it just showed I should have done more research before signing up for any one company. You also have to look at your life. Alot of the companies out there that are real WAH jobs require you to be on the phone and to not have background noises. I worked for an inbound phone company for a while but had to quit when my husband couldn't watch him anymore while I worked. Anywho, if you want the WAH list, just lmk, but most Direct Sales business' only work if you really like the product and believe it can work. Also, check out the concentration of consultants in your area before signing up for a company. That is the second problem I had with CL. After I signed up I found that everyone I knew already had a CL consultant, everyone they knew did too, same thing with MK. Hope this helps |

I sold Mary Kay for extra money in high school, but then I went to college and lost all of my customers because I was no longer local. After having my son, I decided to stay at home with him. Then, my husband who was working a full-time job wanted to finish his undergrad degree, so I needed to find a way to make money at home.
Now, I work for a great company helping people save money on health care, dental care, vision care, and prescriptions. You can see what I do in my profile.
Whatever you find, make sure it is something you can get excited about. If you don't believe in your product or service, your potential customer will know immediately.
Also, do research on any company you are thinking about working with. I recommend Rip Off Report.

Hi there. I just wanted to share my work at home opportunity. I work for a company that has been around for 30+ years and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. We market a legal services plan and identity theft protection.
This is a real business opportunity that takes very little investment on your part to get started and is something you can begin right away.
