The only legit ways I have found is to start your own home business. I do have a couple of friends that work from home, but they have degrees and are pretty high up the corporate ladder.
I've checked into tons of the ads, and never have had anything pan out.

I have found a very successfull home based business. The key is to find something you love to do or a product you believe in. I have found both in this company.
I set my own hours and the rewards are amazing.
What I do is Spa Escapes. I bring the spa experince to the privacy of people's homes. I use the company's products (which happen to be the best I have ever tried) and teach the clients how to recreate the spa in their own home. Very easy.
I am a full time teacher (I am quitting after this year) and do this part time. I did make more doing my spa escapes part time than I did teaching full time with a master's degree.
The company pays well and you can earn cash bonuses, jewelry, trips, and cars.

To make money from home, you really have to look at a few factors.
Do you want a completely online business?
Do you want to have public interaction?
How much time do you want to invest (part time/full time)?
I had also been struggling with the idea of working at home until now. I recently joined a business that I absolutely love. It is like Build A Bear but instead of driving to a mall (especially with gas prices!), no where to have cake and ice cream, and other children crowding in on your experience, I actually come to the birthday at the child's home, the kids get to actually stuff their own animals, name them and love them. if you are interested, check out my website:

If you sit at computer and work online you can make this. Webmasters needs never ends. Somebody wants 1000 email accounts at $50, some body wants comments posting on myspace, some wants to answer on forums, some wants their site to be promoted, some want sales to happen out of their sites, some want web designing itself....never ending... all these needs some skills like data entry, writing, designing etc. Feeling you can try?
Then join as a service provider to freelance sites - its free and find projects that suit to your skills.

Of course there are legit ways to make money from home. As long as you can offer a service or sell a product from home where you don't have to lie, cheat or steal, it's legit.
The problem with MOST people is that what they're looking for is FAST, EASY money.
I run a home based food delivery business with my wife and I also manage a network of websites that bring in a nice amount of money. BUT it takes HARD WORK, PERSEVERANCE and COMMITMENT.
I believe that almost any idea can be tranformed into a home based business. You just have to be creative and be prepared to put in a fair bit of elbow grease to make it happen.
