Only if *everything* were equal between the two sellers (everything from the condition of the product to the total price to the shipping time), then I might sway toward the one that gives to charity, as long as the cause is one that lines up with my values and if I know the charity is reputable and uses its resources well. |

No, Why would one do that. Say that the merchant purports to donate 10% of each sale over $10.00 to a charity. The buyer knows that the price of the products have been raised by that 10%. So the charity is not often stated so one could be donating money to worthless causes or groups that spend far more on executives or fund raising than do any useful work RED CROSS comes to mind.
Lastly, why --- donations should be private. Why not spend your money on those causes that you select. |

Some of these guys think it boosts sales. However, many of these "charities" are questionable. Some well-known charities I simply do not agree with and refuse to contribute. So anyone selling anything who "donates to charity" gets a big question mark in my book, and is highly unlikely to get any sale. I prefer doing business with an honest, up-front BUSINESS, the same way I do business.
BTW, almost all businesses do contribute to charities. Some have employees vote on which charity to support. Some do things for local schools, non-profit organizations, etc. So anytime you do biz with a biz, some of their profits end up going to various charities. They don't brag about it, however. They do not try to get customers by deceiving them into thinking "it's for charity." |
