Success is a relative concept. Same is valid of failure. People are generally working very hard for success and are scared at the idea of failure. Everybody wants to be successful and nobody wants to be a failure. But the reality is that both success and failure are aspects of the duality within this world. Both are temporary and flickering. Many people think that by working hard they are guaranteed success. And this might be true, but finally everyone has to meet death and loose everything and start from scrath his/her next life. So, what is real success few people know and strive for. Real success in life is to make progress on the path of spiritual perfection or self-realization. There is no fear of loss on this path, because it is all-auspicious and eventually leads one to the highest perfection of existence. This path is described by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita as follows:
BG 2.40
nehabhikrama-naso 'sti
pratyavayo na vidyate
sv-alpam apy asya dharmasya
trayate mahato bhayat
TRANSLATION
In this endeavor there is no loss or diminution, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.
BG 6.40

vinasas tasya vidyate
na hi kalyana-krit kascid
durgatim tata gacchati
TRANSLATION

although i don't consider my life as a whole a success i do consider parts of my life successful. although i don't make a lot of money i love my job. i can't imagine being happier doing anything else. on the other hand, i've been unsuccessful in getting pregnant. i've been trying for over two years.
i think a lot of people let their lives pass them by because they are chasing "success" when they already have it in their life but not the way they want it. |
