I have owned a business with four other people for three years and have requested access to our accounts and have even asked to have an outside accountant be allowed to look things over. Everytime I have been meant with some excuse or another by two of my co-owners (the other owner backs me on this issue) We are considering seeking legal assistance. |

If this is a partnership there might be a problem getting access. The general partner has control of the business function. They also hold the most liability in the company though. If it is anything other than a partnership you should have access, especially if you are equal shareholders in the business.
It sounds like something is going on as well. Possibly a boost in compensation or taking a little more of the profits then talked about. |

You need to be authorized on those accounts in order for you to have access to them just becasue you are a partner i don't think that gives you the accessibility to those accounts. |

It depends on the structure of your business. if it is a corporation then you should have access to the financial statements that are issued by the corporation. if it is a partnership and you have an equal share then you should have access to the actual books. BUT if they are refusing to provide this then you will definitely need help for two reasons, The first is to gain access to the books and second to find out what they do not want you to discover. DO NOT WAIT!! You need immediate assistance from both an attorney and an accountant. |

As an equal shareholder, you have the right to look over the books of your corporation. You are one of the owners. It sounds like there is a trust issue here. If you can't resolve it with the other owners, hire an attorney. Another alternative would be to sell your share of the business and start a new one. |

As a share holder you have right to access the books of accounts, whether minor share holder. it gets even better, you a an equal share holder therefor you have every right in the bussiness as your co-share holders.
you must see these books early other wise they could be misusing your capital or even paying less interest on your capital and less divedends from profits earned. |
