Ever since I can remember all I wanted to be was my own boss, didn't matter what I was doing as long as I was my own boss. I left school at 16 no qualifications, and been stuck in dead end jobs since, I've been told by countless people/careerers advisors included i'd be better being my own boss as I do not like authority figures, we simply don't get on. I am a good worker and have several references saying this but I don't brown nose the boss so never get anywhere
I want to be my own boss but don't think I have a hope, firstly I can't drive, I never earned enough to take lessons, and because I never earned enough I am also credit blacklited as I used credit to live, so my only option is the internet to make a living, tried ebay but amazing how the sellers on there can sell items even cheaper than my suppliers.
So as I say any job ideas welcome as I don't want to be stuck on prozac for the next 30 years due to depression caused by this mess, I want to work for myself

There are some lowcost franchises you can look into like gardening, car maintenance, cleaning etc. The can be from £20K upwards, so will need to save and borrow, but not impossoble. |

ive been my own boss for the last 15 years. the same as you no car, no credit. it has been very hard work and i made alot of mistakes and upto until 2 years ago had no money. i saw a niche and filled it but it has taken a long time to get where i am now.
the easiest way of being your own boss is to get a trade like carpenter, bricklayer, electrician, plumber they earn good money and good ones are always in work. |

Id say that you need to get out and get a job for a little while, the reason i say this is that a license is useful, good credit is essential to run any kind of business and thirdly to get into a routine and some cash behind you...
I totally apreciate you not wanting to work for someone else but think of it as a means to an end... A kind of experiment... I have no ideas about what business to go into if you want to sell stuff check this website out www.alibaba.com it has loads of suppliers of absolutely anything from underpants to mobile phones .... write down all the skills you are good at (forget the fact you haven't qualifications, many fantasic skilled people are self taught- no qualifications- you can follow courses free at night school to improve yourself in the area you choose. Once you have a list of your skills then write down 20 positive things about yourself and 20 negative - this will start to give you a base of what business you could do. For instance if you are naturally rude to people you need to look in an area that does nt involve direct contact.
Once you have found your business you need to start making a plan - plenty free on the net.
I started my business on nothing I now have a Ltd company. I left school with nothing!
Have a look at the web for starting your own business - see first if you could stay with the commitment - lots of admin to do.
Get yourself a VAT number if you are going to trade - its free and you get the VAT back off the stock you sell - but you have to prove you are selling also, don't ever try to fool HMCE!
You can offer yourself as a service - still register for VAT, this give you a more profession look. Find yourself a company name - even as a sole trader you still need a name, take it from there. Once you are at this stage there is lots of free help, Business eye, Business connect etc, go to your local advice center or job center to ask about where you can go for free business advice.

Don't dismiss the Ebay option. It takes some research to find what sells, and at what prices, and then start small buying the odd item that's at a bargain price. Sell for profit, buy the next one......
That's what I started doing a couple of years ago. Business has turned over £22k so far this year on a part time basis. Never going to retire on it but if you were to make it your full time job, who knows? You'll soon spot suppliers from whom you can turn over a profit.

The first thing to do is to change your attitude! If you continually tell yourself that you will fail, then you will! You have to think positive, and get up each morning ready to work hard. Owning your own business is a LOT more work than having a regular job.
Most of us have obstacles that we must get over or around. Not having a drivers license is an easy one! Just find a friend that has a car, and ask them to teach you! You can study for the exam online, or by getting a free booklet from the drivers license place. Going through this one with my teenagers right now! LOL
I have an obstacle too, my health. I am a cancer patient, plus I have H.S., fibromyalgia, agoraphobia and bi-polar disorder. I could choose to sit on my can and collect disability income, or I can do work that works for me. I choose to work. My husband works from home with me, so that he can be here to help me when I need him. We run an online community shopping mall that has a number of individual sellers, and we also do web design, SEO, and business consultation. These are jobs that we can do from here without having to worry about my health. I used to sell on ebay, but the high fees and the physical work both just got to be too much for me.
Make a list of all of the things that you know how to do that could help you earn money. Then make a list of the things that you dont know how to do, but could be good money makers. Then decide if you can learn how to do them. You dont have to go to school to learn something. With the internet, you can learn just about anything you want to learn, and for free! You wont get a degree or diploma, but when you are self-employed you dont have to have these. You just have to know how to do your job, and do it well. There are several schools that you can pay to take online classes though, so you CAN get a degree without ever driving to a class.
Be positive, and start to really make a plan. You CAN do it, if you try hard enough! |

Try Ebay, start by selling things you own, but never even look at. You'll be surprised.
But you need to change your attitude. If you want to be your own boss, you will need to learn to be the BIGGEST BROWN NOSER out. You need to show that you will bow down to your customers..or you won't have any customers. Sell a few items on ebay to pay for driving lessons...get a license and then you could go to a local private hire taxi firm..they will have cars to hire out..get a taxi badge and suit yourself. |

I never thought that I could ever have my own business, especially working from home. Now I have and I love it. Its flexible so I work it around my family. No more child minders, which I think is fantastic and I'm getting paid for my efforts. What more could I want????
