Best UK bank for business account?
From your own experience which UK bank offers the best business account in terms of service and cost?

Pip
Barclays Bank.

Depends on the scale and the requirements of your business.

If you're a member of the Federation of Small Business you can get free banking from the Cooperative Bank.

HSBC have recently been offering free banking to startups and companies moving to them.

Lloyds TSB give new companies 18 months free banking but their bank charges tend to be a little higher later.

All charge for many or most of the services you take for granted as being free with a personal bank account. The services they offer and pricing and structure of the charges for those services differ from bank to bank so the best one for you will depend largely on your banking profile and requirements.

Consider can make do with doing most of your banking using online banking or if you need a traditional counter service, how much cash you expect to bank, how many cheques you'll be writing and banking, whether you need to transact internationally etc. Put together a list of the things you need from the account and the volume/type of transactions you expect then approach each of the major highstreet banks to see who offers the best deal.

Lloyds TSB. Its free for 18 months, you get a starter kit for free, a business manager, really helpful and friendly staff.

Kris to the rescue!
Barclay's! deffo mate. Also they are rather financially sacure compared to others at the moment.

bortain
I'd have to go with Barclay's as well.

Depends on the scale of your business.

Assuming a small business, RBS, and their subsidiary Natwest, are very good.

Barclays get very mixed reports. In my personal opinion they are very poor when it comes to service unless you are a major company. I am told They have business managers that are attached to businesses of a certain size who are generally very switched on, but you need to be a major account.

Halifax/HBOS have a very poor reputation. I have only used them for a personal account, now closed, and would not recommend them to anyone.

Yorkshire/ Clydesdale Bank are now run by numbers. I can say nothing good about them since they became part of the National Australian group.

If you are talking PLC then one of the private banks is your best bet.
