Word of mouth. is the best way in a small town.. and to get in with the other well known and respected local business's. they can recommend you and vice verse. the local newspaper is good, but the Internet, flyer's and the local phone directory is great too. Don't do cold calling as it is irritating..

Here are some other tips I recommend. You should start going to community events, chamber of commerce, local trade groups, etc. and start networking with different people in your community. It would probaby benefit you to make connections with local landscape companies. They can sell your services to their clients and will be happy to do so. Start a flyer campaign. Visit with neighborhood association board members, building management companies, etc.

First thing in advertising is name recall and product/service association with that name (also a logo). Choose a name for your business that will best describe your service. Advertising can be expensive for small business. Try flyers and put your logo in everything that you can get away for free (like your service vehicle and the products you install. Be sure to notify the community that your outfit is the one doing a project. Put a sign like "This is another garden development by XXXX" while you are working. Your workers must be in uniform with logo. Leave a your trade mark in all your finished projects. Offer refferal commissions or bonuses to former clients. |
