Best place to open a business? and how does a person avoid businesses that are already running into the ground or trouble from previous owners?
Someone I knew had to flee because of location and trouble from the previous owners, like stealing clients, breaking in, location wasn't that great etc. |

For a brick and mortar business, locating it near complementary businesses (like a juice bar next to a gym) or businesses that don't compete with yours but generate a lot of customer traffic (like a department store) is always a great idea.
Check with the local police department to find out what kind of crime is in the area you are considering. As that information is a matter of public record, they will be helpful.
Talk to other business owners in the area and see what there experience has been like. If you aren't opening a competing business, they will most likely share information with you. |

If I were you lad I recommend putting it online.
And for many reason. One its a heck CHEAPER to start-up and to maintain. Two you wont have to do physical maintenance to your business. And three you wont have to worry about thievery (OK maybe hacking but still) so your business is more safe. |

Online business is a good idea but, if you got a business that need a store in a building try to find a place in a good neighborhood close to a church you never see creepy people near churches and it 'll get good business on Sundays. |

The best place to open a business is online.
It also depends on what sort of business it is.
For example,if you want to open an eatery, you can still promote your business online and have people book, and pay online.
If you're after a decent physical location, I suggest somewhere with plenty of parking, close to the CBD, nearby other businesses that are different to yours - like a petrol station/vet/florist/car dealers etc. |

Like the person above said Online, there is almost no cost associated with running a large infrastructure. Everthing out of your house, or warehouse. No extra bills. Advertising deals are out there and you can reach everyone. To avoid running it into the ground work hard get your product out there and dont break any rules. |

start a business where there arent that many businesses liek you. Dont start a coffee shop on a street with 15 of them already. Location is everything. Make sure neighborhoods or complexes are close by . The crime isnt too high in the area, and keep asking question on Yahoo answers! |

Depends on the type business.
Retail is location, location, location.
Services are product, product, product.
In general, avoid buying an existing business. Most of those that are for sale aren't making (enough) money. From experience, don't believe the accounting figures you're shown, they are almost always cooked.
The best business to buy or start is the one that sells or does what YOU love. If you are passionate about your product, you'll probably be passionate about your business too. |

Sell stuff online. Books, random crap from your attic, random crap from other people's attics. Be resourceful.
Be an affiliate marketer. Be an online marketer. Lots of possibilities. Only you can make the success of it, however! |

if you want a coffee shop, look around at other coffee shops, or whatever, both present and past and see what makes them do well or not so well...
