sbrman_2004 | Boss wants family to attend business function? |
My boss is pressuring me for my family to attend a company family function. I have said no. His family functions are "drama" anyway and I don't want my kids around it, even for a few hours. I am getting ready to leave this job of 3 years in a few weeks and my wife will not attend a function with people (boss and his ditzy wife) that won't speak to her in public.
Any good thoughts on how to handle? |

Just say "no" and say no more. Your boss can't come drag your family out of the house and make them come. You and your wife decide what your family does, not your boss. It's a no-brainer. If he pushes it more, tell him no again and explain to him what you just said in your question. Might make him mad, but at least he will know and you will have said your peace. |

well if it is not a mandatory business function you could tell him you are sorry and your family cannot make it. but you should still attend it. dont worry you will be leaving the job soon anyway. |

Just tell him you have a prior commitment and can't make it. You don't really have to worry too much about repercussions since you're quitting anyway. |

1. When people don't listen or accept your decisions, as an adult, you are left with only one quiet form of action.
2. Passive aggression. Since you are leaving the company, skip the whole affair.
3. No one has the right to tell you what to subject your family to, except the law. Your soon to be ex-boss does not control your leisure life, only the workplace and the work you do.
Good luck and warm wishes! |

Unless this is a mandatory paid business function your family is under no obligation to attend. You have already declined and that should be sufficient. Since you are leaving anyway don't sweat it. |

Tell him that you have a highly contageous viral infection and you don't want his wife exposed any more than she already has been. |

Just tell him that your family will not be available that day. |

Bring your brother to the party. He's family. I take it your boss is ultra conservative. You can also take your sister or one of your wife sisters and introduce her as your "friend". Don't hold back on free food and alcohol. |

Just bring your wife and make an excuse for the kids you don't wan them to suffer, your wife can handel this if you persuade her. |

Tell the boss that you have a prior engagement booked. |

simple you have prior commitments that cant be broke. if boss doesn't like who cares your leaving in 2 weeks, your family is priority over work. |
