Business Conventions?
My father owns a successful company, he knows what he is talking about and our customers respect him a lot.

BUT...
My father lacks in managerial talent. He is way to nice of a boss. I want to send him to a convention that will help him learn how to manage his employees better.

Is there such a thing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There's a difference between being managerial talent and being an effective boss/supervisor. It sounds like you think he needs to be more assertive with employees? This isn't uncommon - heck, not very many people enjoy conflict. If this is the problem, there are lots of short courses and seminars that can help. Check your local college/continuing education or extension programs - they usually do a pretty good job and are reasonably priced.

The problem with short training courses, particularly where they're designed to change behavior, is that they tend to be somewhat superficial - you learn some theory, but don't get a lot of chance to practice or apply what you've learned, and as a result behavior doesn't change much.

It may be more beneficial to combine some formal training with follow-on coaching. A coach will spend some time in the workplace with your father, and also be available via email/phone to help solve problems on an on-going basis.

Rates for this kind of thing vary with the the type of training/coaching required, the availability of the coach, and usually the size/type and revenue of the business involved.

I'm not sure where you're located, but your local Chamber of Commerce may be able to point you toward an appropriate local resource who can help.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
