Business bank account?
I'm trying to find a free business bank/credit union account. While I've seen a few of these, they require a minimum amount deposited first, and then they usually charge a monthly maintenance fee or something. The business isn't making any money and there's no guarantee that it will, but to keep personal and business monies seperate I need a business account. I can deposit a $100 that's minimum required, but I don't want to pay any monthly fees as this is a very small business. So small at the moment that there is no money coming in like I said. Any help and referals are appreciated. Also, if you've done this before, please tell me how you did it. Thanks.

Try Bank of America, it has a no fee and low minimum business account. If you are a sole proprietor, open a personal account and use it for business in the beginning. There are a lot of banks that will offer free checking and no minimum balance accounts.

I had the same problem and the only bank I found with a totally free business checking account with no minimum was my local bank called Capital City Bank. You need to search your local banks and I'm sure there is one with a free business checking account.
If you are a sole proprietor, just open a second free personal checking account. i have done this as well for another business.
Also, look at bankrate.com to find business checking accounts that are free.

One of the reasons that banks and credit unions charge the extra fees and service charges is because of the number of transactions that are likely to be processed through the business account versus the number of transactions that are processed through a personal checking account. Many banks have different levels of business accounts for the different types of businesses that are out there.

The best thing I can recommend is to go to the bank or banks you are interested in and do some research. Have them go through all of the different options for a business like yours and explain the benefits and drawbacks to each account. They should have some pamphlets that lists these different accounts so that you can see the differences of each one. This is helpful to if you research at more than one bank. Even though the business isn’t making money now, that is your goal and you are going to want an account that is going to accommodate you at that point. Be sure to ask questions as you go on each account if something isn't clear

Be sure to check out the Doing Business As (d/b/a) option at these banks. This option usually puts the account in your name and uses your social security number. This may not be an option tho if you have already received an Employee Identification Number (EIN). There may still be some fees on this type of account but I would think that they would be minimal--at the bank I worked at it was $1.50 a month.

Some bank accounts also have restrictions on who can own a certain type of account. For example, usually the completely free accounts can be owned by individuals and not businesses. Free accounts usually have the minimum amount of services included with them while if you open a actual business account, you will more than likely have services available to you that personal accounts don't offer.

Good luck!!

What type of business is it? I have had a couple of seperate checking accounts for personal businesses that I just set up through my bank as a second checking account. Did that sound repetitive? I am not sure what kind of banks you have locally but if you go in to any bank that offers free checking you should be able to set up this seperate account without having to pay any additional fees. For instance, I am an Independent Beauty Consultant, I have a regular checking account and a "business" checking account through Fidelity Bank... I set this up through their free checking service. I choose this bank because I needed to be able to have a debit card that day and they were the only ones that offered that.

Seems if you have properly handled you personal account they would extend you a business account as well.

You can keep your fund separated by opening a second personal account at a *second* bank.

Look in your phone books under banks and call each one up and asked some questions. Some banks offer free checking on both personal and business accounts.
