goldy1980@btinternet... | Buying from China using Western Union Money Teransfer? |
Hi all, I have a small home run ebay business selling motorcycle parts and recently i registered with 2 websites for importing from China. Alibaba.com and Made in China.com. After various emails back and forth a deal was struck with several suppliers all of which sent me invoices asking me to pay via Western Union Money Transfer but i've heard some horror stories buying this way. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thank You |

Western union is a joke
it is the preferred choice of money exchange - by conmen and scammers - throughout the world |

The fundamental principle about using Western Union is that it is safe if you know or trust the recipient, but risky if you don't. PayPal is much better, but they would have to register in China with a bank account. Another possibility, is for you to open a Bank of China account. They have branches in UK. |

With Western Union, it's a case of needing to be certain that the recipient is trustworthy. By sending money, the recipient could pick it up and you'd have no come-back if they never sent goods.
I HAVE used it buy from China several years ago, and only did so because the seller I was buying from (on Ebay) had very high, very positive feedback. It was all fine - received exactly what I paid for and made several more orders, not a problem.
I would suggest that if you do not know anyone who has used this company before i.e. this is NOT based on a recommendation, then do not send money via Western Union, certainly not a high amount. Perhaps you might want to send a small amount for a sample of goods - if they come through, increase the orders gradually. If nothing arrives, then you've only lost a small amount - write it off against future profits! |

be carful with western union, there is no fraud protection, i used it once and got robbed out of £600 (the goods i purchesed never turned up) ask them if you can pay by credit card as you will be covered up to certain amount. |

i cant say why, but DONT use Western Union!!!
your money could end up anywhere, and u wont see any goods, and there is never any proof to say if a payment has been made.
dont do it!!!!! |

UK reply
I've dealt with Chinese Companies for years, both big, small and one man bands. On first transactions they usually want 20-30% up front payment which is reasonable to prove you are reliable.
All wanted their money paid into their bank accounts.
I also have heard Western Union horror stories but do not know exactly how the con(s) work. I would not use it!
I guess they are middle men who receive your money and
"disappear" and you don't get the goods.
Do remember dealing with China at low value levels is very Wild West territory! Ask for their bank account details and say you will pay 20% now and the remainng 70% when they fax/email you the Bill of Lading details. |

I would check with the e-bay folks about this. Personally myself, I wouldn't do it as there isn't a way to get your money back if it turns out you're being scammed. Paypal would be better as you can always report to them about the scam and they could get your money back. |

First off, DON'T buy from China. You stand a very high chance of being ripped off, no matter what payment method you use.
Secondly, if anyone demands payment by Western Union, then they are actually PLANNING to rip you off. No 'ifs', no 'buts'... |

Yes its a good way! but personaly as a buisness man myself and dealing also with china myself, i would use better ways!
You do know that you will be losing more money with the Western Union? try something like direct transfers from an out of uk bank etc... even a uk bank can do it! but its more complicated.
I should just say, its like direct debit.
They are buisness people like you, there are better ways for doing buisness, there not losing out! you are... with all the fees you pay Western Union.
Hope this helps. |
