Some banks extend what they call "small business lines of credit" often through credit cards. Those are easier to get and can be based on your credit history alone. They typically are up to $100,000.

For example, Wachovia's has various business lines of credits http://www.wachovia.com/small_biz/page/0,,446_612_1399,00.html Their business line of credit can even be approved overnight,

However, if you're applying for a loan and if it is a big amount, banks and even the SBA may consider other factors:

- Your personal credit history as you still have no business credit history

- A business plan explaining what the business is

- Your background and experience in the business -- in my experience, this is KEY in the eyes of the bank because they want to make sure that you know what you are doing and that you can make the business work. If you don't have any experience with the business, have someone on board that knows the business to give banks assurance that someone will guide you

- Your credit factors because it shows your dependability and how well you handle credit. They will do a credit check on you and poor credit history may be frowned upon, or even reason for the disapproval of your loan application

- Your collateral. Banks, even SBA guaranteed loans, want the borrower to show collateral. They want to be guaranteed that somewhere somehow they can get payment from you

- Condition or terms of loans. Banks would want to know three important things: "How much money are you requesting? What will it be used for? and For how long will it be needed?" Banks oftentimes prefer to approve loans for items that can be identified, has lasting value, and can be repossessed and sold if things fail.

- Your equity investment as banks want to see that you are also invested in your business. Anywhere from 20% and up

Go to your bank and talk to the manager to inquire how to go about getting a bank loan

You need a solid business plan first, no bank will give a business loan without one.

Difficult to get a business loan on a business that does not yet exist or has only recently existed. You would be unwise to raise money against your house unless you are really confident your business is going to be a success. No rich relatives around?

Yes, just go and see the bank manager. I'd be wary about securing it against the house though. Most new businesses go bust within 2 years - often through no fault of the owners.

Please be careful...

No lender will talk to you unless you provide them with a valid business plan. Go to http://www.sba.gov , http://www.score.org or http://www.bplan.com for sample business plans and instructions on how to write a business plan.

Then, go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to review your business plan and discuss various loan options available to you.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.

Yes.

Most banks would want to see a business plan, and would also want you to put in around 30% of the capital yourself to prove that you are serious.

Wow, yes you can get a business loan if you set your business up like a business. I would suggest that you invest in some type of "Business Plan" software that will help you develop your business so that it can be evaluated by a bank, the small business administration or other private investors. Any business without a thorough Business Plan is likely to fail. Also, you may find that in preparing a Business Plan, that the business you thought was a "can't miss" opportunity may be a "total miss".

Good Luck comes from being prepared!

Good Luck!
